Liked: If I was to design an hotel it would be the University Arms. Attention to detail is the key
Disliked: The push button light switches but soon got used to them

Service did not meet expectations
Liked: The location is good. The bed is comfortable but bed size should be bigger for that room area
Disliked: I booked cozy room 5 months ago for graduation ceremony , the room rate was more than 2 times than an regular day. My room has an attic with a smaller window, indeed it is so dark. Disappointing with Hotel service staff, they didn’t refund the deposit to me upon checkout until I found it out after a week. I need to write to their house manager to seek for rectification.

A good hotel in an...
Liked: The location is excellent. However, we had bid for an upgrade for a room with a view of the park. We paid for the upgrade, but we didn't get the view, we were at the exact opposite, overlooking a small street.
Disliked: It is a great building, and it has been refurbished over the years. As I was familiar with the original University Arms Hotel, this Marriott hotel is a standard remake that could be found anywhere in the world.

Overpriced but great location
Liked: The location is great if visiting Cambridge. Lovely overall atmosphere.
Disliked: We were surprised to see that our room was already somewhat worn down despite it only opened 8 years ago. Further the high price doesn’t match the standard of room (size, amenities) or service (e.g. no valet parking or turn down service)

Nice hotel, but some weirdness...
Liked: Excellent location and nicely styled interiors. Generally clean room, but could have benefited from a little more attention to detail (a couple of makeup stains on carpet for example). Toiletries nicely scented. Good range of hot drinks in the room and the option of all night food too. Books provided were lovely and view from window over Parker’s Piece great (despite the weather).
Disliked: Strange encounter at check in and my first experience of the so-called “Gen Z Stare” when a receptionist appeared at the desk and stood looking at me silently. I had to ask her whether she was alright as she hadn’t said anything. The interaction normalised after that. Checking out, there seemed to be some clerical error and I received an email demanding the return of an accidental over-repayment of the £75 deposit. As the return of my initial deposit “can take up to five working days” I found it a liberty for them to request immediate repayment of something that hadn’t even appeared in my account yet. I’m not just a keyboard warrior and I will be contacting the main Marriott Bonvoy to follow this up.

Good
Liked: The University Arms was a beautiful building, but the more recent addition to its frontage has drastically reduced its beauty. One of the pleasures of staying there was dining and breakfasting in the beautiful High ceilinged dining room with windows down to the floor, but that is now converted to "function rooms" snd diners are accommodated in the earlier (? 1920s) extension. The staff were excellent. The "comfort room" we had seemed like a former laundry store with doubtful electrical wiring. If the light was turned off in the bathroom, the lights in the bedroom flickered on and off, regardless of the bedroom lightswitch position.Remembering how it was only 30 years ago, it was hard not to be a bit disapointed.
Disliked: The room
