The Spotlight on Unicorn Gunthorpe by Marston's Inns

Riverside Charm Meets Concert Convenience Near Nottingham

Modern country comfort awaits at Unicorn Gunthorpe by Marston's Inns, a cozy inn-style hotel set along the picturesque banks of the River Trent. Located just 13 miles from Nottingham, this laid-back spot blends traditional pub vibes with contemporary amenities, making it a peaceful yet connected base for your concert getaway.

Each room is thoughtfully equipped with a flat-screen TV, private bathroom, bottled water, hairdryer, and tea and coffee facilities. With free Wi-Fi throughout and a scenic outdoor terrace, it’s a great place to unwind before or after the show.

Why Concert-goers love it

Though it’s a short drive from central Nottingham’s major venues, the Unicorn Gunthorpe offers a much quieter alternative to city-center hotels. It’s ideal for concert-goers with a car, or those planning to taxi or rideshare. The peaceful riverside setting means low noise levels post-gig, and the on-site pub makes it easy to grab a bite even after a late-night return. Check-in from 14:00 gives you time to settle in before the music starts, and check-out at 11:00 lets you sleep in a bit the next day.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a fun, social stay with pub access
  • Solo travelers seeking a calm base near Nottingham
  • Couples making a weekend escape around a concert
  • Fans who value a quiet, scenic spot post-show
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who don’t mind a short drive

Food and Drink Options

The on-site Marston’s pub serves up hearty classics including steaks, burgers, pasta, and rotisserie chicken. Breakfast is available each morning, which is perfect after a late night out. While there’s no explicit 24/7 room service, the pub’s generous hours and wide menu cover most needs.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself is more about relaxed riverside drinks than high-energy nightlife, Nottingham’s buzzing bars and live music venues are just a short drive away. For a low-key nightcap, the on-site pub pours local ales, wines, and seasonal cocktails in a welcoming atmosphere.

What People Say

Guests love the peaceful river views, friendly staff, and good value for money. Many highlight the quality of the food and the comfort of the rooms. It’s especially praised for being a restful place to return to after a busy night in the city.

Areas for Improvement

The hotel’s village location means you’ll likely need a car or taxi to reach Nottingham’s concert venues. Rooms are charming but not ultra-modern – more cozy countryside than sleek city. But for many, that’s part of the charm.

The Bottom Line

If you’re after a quiet, budget-friendly stay with pub comforts near Nottingham’s music scene, Unicorn Gunthorpe by Marston's Inns hits the right notes.

Very nice stay in the...

Liked: The staff were excellent. So knowledgeable and helpful. Delicious food, well served.Liked the area, and it is well positioned for getting around.
Disliked: The place was a bit tired and needed a bit of an update. We were in Room 12, which could have benefitted from a few changes. Two single beds pushed together are not as comfortable as a double bed. The wardrobe door wouldn't fully open due to lack of space. For safety, the shower needed a mat. I slipped on the slippery base, which would not have happened if there was a mat. The hot water took ages to come through. We thought it wasn't working, and a note to let us know about it would have helped. Very disappointed with the black mould around the pains of glass in the windows.Only small things, but would have improved the stay.

Bad experience, unicorn hotel ⁸

Liked: Not worth my time, explaining it again
Disliked: Nothing about the place, would have been ok if we able to get into are room instead of sleeping on the landing

Acceptable but won’t rush back

Liked: Pre-paid for breakfast which was a little disappointing. Ordered the vegan breakfast but was given vegetarian which wasn’t a massive problem. Texture of avocado was awful and it’s was almost paste like in consistency. Sat waiting for breakfast to be served with the chef clearly shouting for service but no one around.Coffee was instant so really disappointed in that.
Disliked: Rooms and corridors are tired but clean. No headboard on bed and marks on the wall behind which was not great.Breakfast was not good, especially as the order was wrong, ended up leaving almost all of it.
