A fantastic stay. A lovely...

Liked: The outdoor pool was lovely - a perfect temperature, not crowded, lovely views. Very attentive staff. Lovely breakfast. Majestic rooms, fantastic grounds and stunning old trees. We enjoyed the gardens, both walking and cycling in them. Very relaxing. Will definitely return and will bring other family members.
Disliked: It was all excellent. However these things could be improved - we borrowed bikes which was lovely but they had to be mended by a member of staff before use and I still ended up on a bike with only one brake instead of two which did not feel safe. Our shower was temperamental with fluctuating temperature and flow of water. The indoor pool was too cold and the jacuzi was cold too. Our room looked over the car park.

The swimming and the grounds...

Liked: The property is gorgeous no doubt there! The swimming pool outdoors was fantastic The size of our room and bathroom was huge
Disliked: Management and housekeeping when was the last time you checked the sofas and chairs in the lounges and bedrooms? They are the dirtiest and grubbiest I’ve ever seen and well past their best. Why don’t you have armrest covers? when was the last time they were cleaned? I suspect beyond cleaning. Such a let down!

Heavenly.

Liked: This hotel is so lovely. It’s a relaxing and restorative experience from the moment you arrive. The outdoor pool in a courtyard is heavenly, the gardens are beautiful, the rooms are spacious and very clean and comfortable and the food is all great. The staff could not be more polite and helpful. Will definitely be back

Exceptional

Liked: We got a room upgrade. The breakfast was excellent with a wide range of choice. The gardens are so beautiful and well maintained. The staff is really kind and helpful.
Disliked: The only thing is that food and drinks (basic spirits) were overpriced.

Truly relaxing and luxurious stay.

Liked: We had one of the lovely garden view rooms, which was located at the rear of the hotel, overlooking the walled garden and rose pergola. The room was well equipped and very comfortable. All of the staff at the hotel were very friendly and efficient (for example, at dinner one evening I was struggling with a clogged up salt shaker and within 5 seconds one of the restaurant staff arrived to replace it). And thank you to the lovely young gent that drove us from our room to our car in the parking lot on a golf cart the morning of departure. The hotel itself is a lovely stately old mansion. The gardens and grounds are exceptional. A truly lovely and relaxing experience.
Disliked: Three small niggles. For a luxury hotel don't do the following:1 - UHT milk tubs. There are fridges in the room and surely you can provide some fresh milk.2 - Anti theft hangers. They are annoying and I expect them in cheaper hotels. Who steals hangers anyway?3 - The "Do not disturb/Make up Room" card kept being blown off the door by wind resulting in our room not being made up one day. Quickly rectified with a call to reception, but please find a better solution such as a magnetic door card?

Wish we could have stayed...

Liked: Check-in staff were very helpful as we arrived very early before heading off for an event that didn't see return til late. The room was huge, fitted out very comfortably and had excellent tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast was a joy - lovely setting, excellent choices, waited service - which made a lovely change from the buffet breakfasts so common these days - and very attentive staff. And of course, the hotel is beautiful. Full of character, lovely grounds and very well maintained.
Disliked: The only niggle was the shower. These days, one expects to have a decent deluge of water and with the shower over the bath, this was not the case. The bath was also quite high-sided and getting out after the shower was a bit perilous as it was slippery and there was no grab handle.

Superb

Liked: The grounds are stunning especially the water gardens. Views over the lawns from the balcony were special. We watched the sun set on the terrace with a gin and tonic which felt very civilised. We used the outdoor pool, free bikes and but ran out of time for a game of croquet! Room was super comfortable. Food great and service impeccable.
Disliked: Pump the tyres up on the bikes and have a couple of tools available to adjust the seats to different heights. Jacuzzi is cold not hot so manage your expectations. Sauna is single sex so can’t chat together if going with a partner. It is pricey and be prepared significant service charge will be added to bill. Food didn’t quite warrant the price but was still great and they have a captive audience and location is wonderful so would definitely go again and recommend. But not really a high quality spa by today’s standards. The massage table was quite uncomfortable when lying on your front and they don’t do deep tissue massage more relaxing. Think table worked really well for facial (had a great facial) but really uncomfortable and narrow when lying face down and I’m only 5ft 5 and not big so would definitely change that. Easy improvement. But do recommend all up. Service was hans down best I’ve ever had - front desk, bar, restaurant, spa - consistently brilliant.
