Rustic Retreat Just Outside Cardiff, Perfect After the Show

Modern comfort meets countryside charm at Tunnel Cottages at Blaen-nant-y-Groes Farm. Set high above Cwmbach on the edge of the Brecon Beacons, these 4-star stone cottages offer a peaceful escape just 30 minutes from Cardiff. Think heated flagstone floors, exposed beams, and cozy wood-burning stoves — all with sweeping views of the Welsh countryside.
Each cottage or studio features its own entrance, free Wi-Fi, Sky TV, and a kitchen or kitchenette. Whether you're winding down after a high-energy performance or prepping for a day of adventure, this scenic spot has you covered.

Why Concert-goers love it

Though it's tucked away in scenic tranquility, you're still just a 30-minute drive from Cardiff, making it a smart pick for those attending concerts in the city but wanting a quieter place to unwind afterward. The 11:00 AM checkout gives you time to sleep in after a late-night gig, and free parking means no fuss if you're driving from a show. With minimal surrounding noise, it’s ideal for recharging.

The Rhoswenallt Inn is just a 20-minute walk via a flat path along the old railway line—perfect for a post-show drink or bite.

Nightlife Options

This isn’t the place for bar-hopping, but that’s part of its charm. If you're looking to unwind with a bottle of wine under the stars rather than hit the clubs, this is your spot. Cardiff’s nightlife is less than an hour away if you want a livelier scene before retreating to the calm.

Cute and cosy. Good value.

Liked: Very cute. Near to ZipWorld, (the point of our trip). Everything that we needed for a comfy stay. Bit hard to find and additional directions would have been helpful.
Disliked: Bit hard to find and additional directions would have been helpful.

Beautiful stay in the hills...

Liked: Although our arrival was a bit confusing and we only introduced ourselves to the hosts the next day, everything turned out absolutely fine. The owners were warm and welcoming, and once we settled in, we had a lovely, peaceful stay. They’ve only been running the place for four months, but they’re clearly putting in a huge amount of work to make the site even better, from adding a stylish common room with stunning views to building eco pods and setting up ice baths. It’s exciting to see how the place is evolving! The cottage itself was cosy, clean, and well-equipped. We loved the quiet surroundings and the views over the valley. Definitely a place with heart, and a lot of potential.

Lovely views.

Liked: I liked the view and the fact that the bedding smelled so lovely. I liked the little patio and the small windows and the beautiful mountain view from the bedroom window. I absolutely fell in love with the stone walls around the property and cosy low ceilings. Water was warm in the shower and plenty of utensils to choose from in the kitchen.
Disliked: I didn't like the fact that the bedroom door was very hard to shut (latch wasn't fitting in properly). I also did not like the fact there were no curtain to give privacy to the person sleeping in the open space upstairs (despite the fact there was an old attachment at the ceiling). I didn't like the fact we were not given the code to the gate to enter the property and had to call the owner twice in order to get the code. For such a price I would also expect not to see the fake artificial grass at the patio outside the cottage - it is better just to leave plain stones rather than artificial grass. It just spoiled the natural look. I did not like the noise of renovations at the property, there were builders walking around when I was trying to read a book at the patio. Once I even seen an owner with a very long machete type of knife walking past me when I was sitting with my pyjamas on the patio. Window in the bathroom could not open as there was no way of reaching so high (it was very hot that week) so no ventilation when using the toilet. Also, there was plenty of dust on the bathroom floor.

Did the job, hidden little...

Liked: Great location and a good place to stay. Good people. Was everything we needed for a lads walking holiday. Very close to the Brecon Beacons.
Disliked: Limited kitchenware i.e no spatula or cooking oil etc things you would not think to bring with you. But not a big deal we managed. Noisy neighbours in the other rooms and a lot of dogs barking but it is a working farm so to be expected.
