Liked: staff at desk believe surname Ellis and the waiter now sure of his name only know he had worked around 22 year went over and above to accommodate all of our needs, having mobility problems (on walking stick) helped all they could to make stay excellent
Disliked: possibly a more varied special menu, we stayed five nights so same special menu

Generally a very comfortable stay
Liked: Meals were excellent, Reception staff very friendly and welcoming.I had requested a room that could be accessed easily for my elderly father and his room was perfect
Disliked: We went to the restaurant at 7pm on 22 May and were told that although there were a lot of empty tables, we could not be accommodated until 8.15 and therefore had to drive to another restaurant. As residents I was surprised to be turned away and if a booking was required, why were we not asked to make a booking? We had eaten in the restaurant the night before without a booking. This spoilt our evening and didn't feel consistent with the price point of the hotel

Good location for exploring the...
Liked: Cockermouth is a delightful Cumbrian market town with plenty of independent shops, cafe's, restaurants, and places of historic interest including the NT Wordsworth House located near the hotel. I booked a room at the Trout Hotel including breakfast well in advance primarily for convenience attending a wedding in the locality with Cockermouth used as a transport pick-up point. Pleasant room with ensuite facilities. Useful ironing board, iron and hairdryer provided. The grounds of the hotel are pleasant to sit and enjoy. Travelled to the hotel via train and public bus service.
Disliked: Thankfully the wedding attended in the locality and indeed the weather was wonderful. The experience at this award-winning hotel regrettably was not. Unfortunately, with three hospitality staff off sick over the weekend and a fourth apparently resigning breakfast service on Saturday and Sunday (8am - 10am) was to put it mildly chaotic and extremely disappointing to say the least with one staff member on duty trying to manage a large busy restaurant area on their own. Evening dinner service on arrival had also been noticeably slow so chose to eat locally elsewhere with friends on other evenings during my four night stay. Ground floor room directly overlooked the busy private hotel car park also used by tradespersons and deliveries so did not feel private. Some maintenance work was also taking place near my room. Buzzer access after midnight and wedding celebrations to call the Porter didn't work, tapping on the hotel door did.

Convenient for local restaurants and...
Liked: Convenient location for town centre, free on site private parking. Good breakfast.
Disliked: We are light sleepers. The first 2 rooms we were allocated had noise (the first from the kitchen extractor, the second because it was on the road). On the third attempt we were allocated a quiet room.
