The Spotlight on Travelodge by Wyndham Downtown Chicago

Affordable Comfort in the Heart of the South Loop

Modern and budget-friendly, Travelodge by Wyndham Downtown Chicago puts you right in the heart of the action. Located just 1 block from Millennium Park in the vibrant South Loop, this no-frills hotel is perfect for concert-goers looking for a central spot to crash after a night of music. With free WiFi, flat-screen TVs, and two casual on-site restaurants, it offers everything you need for a comfortable stay without breaking the bank.

Why Concert-goers love it

This hotel is a smart pick if you're catching a show downtown. It's within walking distance or a short ride from major music venues, and being right off I-94 makes it easy to get in and out of the city. The area is lively but not overly rowdy, so you can enjoy the energy of the city and still get a good night's sleep. While check-in is at 3:00 PM and check-out at 11:00 AM, the friendly staff often tries to accommodate early arrivals or late departures when possible.

Who this Hotel is great for

Groups of friends looking for a budget-friendly base
Solo travelers catching their dream artist downtown
Couples making a weekend music getaway
Fans wanting a quieter space after the show
Budget-conscious concert-goers who want to stay central

Food and Drink Options

Grab breakfast or lunch at Chicago Kitchen for some local flavor before or after your show. Craving something different? Thai Spoon serves up sushi and Thai classics in a chill setting. While there’s no 24/7 room service or late-night dining on-site, you're steps from South Loop cafés and eateries that stay open late, especially on weekends. No worries if you sleep in—breakfast is available past the typical early hours.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself is low-key, you're in a prime spot to explore Chicago's nightlife. Bars, lounges, and late-night eats are all within walking distance. Whether you’re heading to a nearby jazz club or just grabbing a nightcap, there’s plenty to do once the encore ends. Prefer something mellow? The area has a relaxed vibe perfect for a post-show wind-down.

What People Say

Guests love the central location and easy access to public transit. Many mention the hotel as a great value for its price, especially for those focused on convenience over luxury. Travelers appreciate the clean rooms, helpful staff, and being able to walk to major points of interest like Grant Park and the Art Institute.

Areas for Improvement

This isn’t a luxury spot, so don't expect high-end finishes or fancy amenities. Some reviewers note the building is older and rooms could use some updates. Noise from the street can be noticeable, so bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper. But for a place to crash after a concert, it gets the job done.

The Bottom Line

Travelodge by Wyndham Downtown Chicago is a smart, affordable stay for concert-goers who want to be close to the action without spending a fortune.

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Logsdon, Pekin, visiting University of Illinois Chicago Thu, 23 June 2022

A/C barely worked; price booked was $188 - ended up being $277 due to $50 extra to park. For those prices remodels and upgrades are desperately needed.

Liked: Area.
Disliked: A/C was bad; price way too high.

Get what you pay for. No bells or whistles but for the price I would stay there again.

Liked: Inexpensive.

Great

Liked: Excellent location, the hotel is a bit old but everything is working fine, good A/C and large, comfy bed. Very friendly staff. Good internet conection.
Disliked: I wish I could open the window, the temperature was pleasant outside and there was no need for the A/C to be on all the time. You can hear the train from the loop, but that's not too annoying.

Wonderful Location to Explore the...

Liked: LOCATION!it's just a few steps from Chicago Downtown... you don't need to use public transportation to move around the city, everything is within walking distance. We arrived at 3 am, and Derek was there to check us in and to provide wonderful recomendations about what to see, where to go, and even where to eat, so we really appreciated his suggestions. he also provided historical facts about the building:built in 1930, it was the first hotel ever in Chicago, to offer a parking space right next to the building. The room has everything you need for your stay: plenty of space, a confy bed, clean sheets, hot water on the tub, clean towels, even a fridge to keep our Deep dish pizza leftovers! and a microwave to heat them :) also, there was a safebox too.The Blue line (airport ride) is a few blocks away and it's really easy to ride it. The hotel is a block away from Michigan Ave, so you can really enjoy the city taking a walk everywhere. For example, you can be in Millenium Park in less than 15 min
Disliked: There was a sofa on the room that could be replaced, but don't let that discourage you... you don't need it :P
