Hotel Description
This 5-star country house dates back to 1909 and still retains period antique features. It offers bed and breakfast accommodations in a peaceful setting above the River Ure in Wensleydale just outside the hamlet of Thornton Rust. The rooms with attached bathroom are elegant and traditionally furnished and each one benefits from a flat-screen TV mini fridge or wine cooler with fresh milk and a selection of hot drinks. Each bathroom comes with a hairdryer. All rooms boast picturesque garden views. A full English breakfast is provided each morning in the original oak paneled dining room with its charming open fireplace. It is prepared with local ingredients from the nearby butcher and eggs from the owners hens. Lighter options are available along with a selection of cereals fruit and yogurt. Three villages with pubs are just within a 3 miles radius and guests are welcome to bring their own drinks to enjoy at the house. Thornton Lodge has free parking on site and is located in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Leyburn is a 20-minute drive from the building and Darlington is just 30 miles away.

Perfect

Liked: Vanessa was the perfect host. Anticipating our needs and providing truly exceptional service. At extremely short notice she put up a gentleman who is 71 and has an Incurable Cancer who had been cold and damp when sleeping in a tent the previous 2 nights. He is trying to complete the 268 Mile Pennine Way Walk.Thank you Vanessa Best wishes to you and your husband

Excellent few days

Liked: The breakfast was very well cooked, choice of cereals and fresh fruits .Vanessa our host is very knowledgeable on the local area and places further afield.Thornton lodge is the perfect hideaway if you want somewhere quiet
Disliked: Could not find anything negative to say I didn’t like.

Beautiful country house, definitely recommended.

Liked: Breakfast is served in a lovely wood panelled dining room. Delicious full English breakfast with toast and honey,jam and marmalade, plenty of tea and coffee all served by Vanessa, a cold buffet breakfast if wanted too. The room was beautiful with a big comfy four poster bed. A little fridge in the room had a welcome pack of scones, jam, cream, cute little bottle of milk, biscuits and wine. All delicious. White company toiletries were a lovely addition too. Excellent to have the use of the sitting room and sun room with snooker/pool table and decking with seating.
Disliked: Nothing.
