Simply fabulous!
Liked: Fabulous stay, let down only by the breakfast to be honest. The room and the stay, the grounds, the tour, the staff - all perfect. We didn't eat dinner, we ate in the Town.
Disliked: Breakfast was dry and small portion. Not much else was wrong with the place to be honest. I'm being picky with the breakfast!

Wonderful historic building and garden,...
Liked: A wonderful historic property carefully restored especially by the Victorians. The garden has been recently replanted with great thought. The furniture is a botch of styles and era but has a period feel. The room was very comfortable with good quality bedding and linen. The staff were friendly and efficient.
Disliked: The historic authenticity of this amazing building is let down by the artwork, mostly large copies or imprints of historic figures - rather Disney. The entire experience was undermined by the appalling restaurant. It’s in a tower which gives it some atmosphere but no views or light. The acoustics are poor and with too loud music it made conversation difficult. The dress code wasn’t enforced so we had someone in a tee shirt and tracksuit on one side and a hoodie and training shoes on the other. The menu is limited and expensive. The minimum for two courses is £56. Mine were very poorly cooked, tiny and tasteless. Thank goodness we didn’t chose the tasting menu. I did complain to the waitress but nothing happened. I also mentioned it to the receptionist as we left the next day, but no action, not even an apology. Breakfast was poorer than you would expect for somewhere like this. Limited choice, modest portions ( half a slice of black pudding),tasteless. No Eggs Benedict as the van hadn’t delivered the ham that morning. Poached eggs are beyond them.It was interesting to note that despite all 27 rooms being booked there were only 14 diners. Plainly everyone else had chosen to eat elsewhere. This hotel is owned by a UAE based business and operated by a hotel management company by remote control. The young staff are doing their best but it does not feel like anyone senior or experienced is on site. For this price bracket that is not good enough.
