Comfortable newly-fitted out rooms over...

Liked: Despite some admin difficulty (see below) the owner was very pleasant & helpful and the rooms above the pub were comfortable, recently fitted-out and generally clean. We had all 3 rooms for family members as we were attending an event at Wadhurst Castle for which the pub is well placed (c.10 mins' walk). We were in the suite which had a very large bathroom with bath and walk-in shower. A Nespresso machine was also provided. Although over the pub and on the main road through the village, the accommodation was peaceful at night and we slept well. There is keypad entry for house guests separate from the pub. We did not have breakfast but there are nice cafes in the village which do coffee, pastries, and some cooked breakfasts, and at least 1 was open from 8am on Sunday, so that was fine. The suite would benefit from a few extra touches like a full length mirror or at least some lighting over the small mirror which is currently in the darkest corner of the bathroom. Plus a full complement of tea/coffee materials beyond just 2 coffee pods and the minimum of milk sachets. But the owner was very willing to provide extras when we requested them.
Disliked: WARNING to anyone booked in the early Autumn of 2025: the owner was new in August and, as at the date of our stay, the account for this platform had not transferred to him, despite repeated attempts (we understand) by him. Therefore he had no knowledge of our booking and is not receiving payments which is unfair. I advise you to contact the pub direct to speak to him to confirm a booking and arrange payment if he still has not got his receipts set up. Future reviewers: if this has been rectified, perhaps you could update on your review.

Nice enough and clean room,...

Liked: Great location for our needs, comfortable room.
Disliked: One of the two we had, did not have a lock on the door from the inside. No one around to talk about this though. Booking.com and their website says, B & B, but when we arrived, they said they did not do breakfast. So we paid for it and did not get it. I booked a table for dinner weeks ago and phoned on our day of arrival to check the time. However, when we arrived, we were told they were not doing dinner, surely they knew that before I phoned that morning and could have told me. Although the bar staff we did see where cheerful and helpful to an extent, it does not feel like they are veery interested in having guests to stay. Rather an odd stay

Nice enough stay in a...

Liked: The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The restaurant was nice for a quick bite before we headed out and the room was very spacious - the bathroom made it. The decor was very stylish and beautiful.
Disliked: We were getting ready for a wedding and there was no full length mirror in the room which was quite annoying. The breakfast was outside our room when we arrived back at the hotel at 12am which consisted of three pre packaged croissants and two pots of instant porridge. I didn’t think this was adequate seeing as there is a full restaurant downstairs which could be used for breakfast service and an independent French bakery within a 1 minute walk who they could potentially arrange with to deliver fresh pastries. There was only one plug by the coffee machine and kettle meaning I had to move the kettle and plug this in by the bed. The toilet made a loud noise when flushing and continued for around 5 minutes. I would say that the suite was nice on the surface and the bathroom made it. Just a few easy tweaks needed to make this a great stay.

Good

Liked: A nice lively family pub with great rooms. Nice size. Stylised in green.Food (apart from breakfast) was excellent.
Disliked: Unfortunately the breakfast let it down, being left on a tray outside the door. No choices possible. It's a pity because it's not what you would expect from a place like this.

Liked: Staff were very friendly and helpful.Could have done with another chair and small table in the room. The bathroom was massive with the biggest bath you have ever seen.No parking on site but lots really close. We only are there once and it was good pub food. There was a rear entrance so you didn’t have to walk through the pub unless you wanted to.We will be back.
