A Hidden Gem

Liked: Lovely old characterful pub with a great atmosphere in a beautiful location overlooking Bow Creek. Wonderful hospitality from hosts Sarah and Leah, who work tirelessly to provide a great experience for guests. We were made to feel very welcome throughout our stay. Spotlessly clean rooms, with really comfortable beds. Fantastic breakfast. Great selection of real ales.We went as a group of 6 and we all said we would have no hesitation in returning.

Not good value for money.

Liked: The staff were friendly . The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean.
Disliked: This was rated a 4 star accommodation and it should be a 2 star. We have been staying at various 3 star accommodations for the past 3 weeks and they were all so much nicer than this so called 4 star. And cheaper. Incredibly shabby and in desperate need of some tlc.The reception area was quite shocking really. Our room was down a long hall that was dark at our end until you reached the door when a light finally turned on. It was very cold our first night with no heat. The staff were however very accommodating with this though and turned the heat on for the balance of our stay. The room smelled damp and musty and there was a mechanical type noise that ran on and off all day and all night which made it difficult to sleep. The breakfast was not very good compared to everywhere else we have stayed. The dinner food was again, very mediocre.If this had been priced appropriately we would have not minded quite so much but it was definitely overpriced for what it was.

Perfect place for a pub...

Liked: The setting was idyllic. The room, view and bathroom: all lovely. Staff: welcoming, friendly, and attentive to every need.
Disliked: Supper - half of it was delicious (local fish) but the chips were unlike any chip I have ever seen: tiny, soggy and dark brown. However, the personalities all around us compensated for the soggy chips. Advice: maybe take a packet of crisps, just in case the chef is having another off day???
