The Spotlight on The Washington

Charming Bristol Stay Just Steps from the Music

A characterful base for your concert getaway, The Washington sits in a beautiful Grade II listed building in the heart of Clifton. Just a short stroll from Bristol’s buzzing cultural and music scene, this hotel offers classic charm with thoughtful perks—like complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits, and fruit in every room. You're less than a mile from the city centre and minutes from must-visit landmarks like the Clifton Suspension Bridge and Bristol Museum.

Why Concert-goers love it

The location is a standout—just a 3-minute walk to key Clifton venues and only 2 miles from Temple Meads Station, making post-show transport easy. While it’s close to the action, the quiet residential street offers a peaceful retreat after a loud night. Late check-in from 15:00 gives you time to explore before the show, and the friendly staff are used to guests on music missions.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends looking for a chill base near the nightlife
- Solo travelers ticking off a dream gig
- Couples making a weekend of it in Clifton’s charming streets
- Fans wanting a quieter place to unwind post-show
- Budget-conscious music lovers who still want a solid breakfast and great location

Food and Drink Options

Start your day right with a full English or continental breakfast included in the room rate (continental only on Mondays and Tuesdays). While there’s no late-night restaurant on-site, you're surrounded by Clifton’s independent cafés, pubs, and eateries. Stock up on snacks with the complimentary in-room treats or grab a bite nearby before heading to your venue.

Nightlife Options

The Washington is surrounded by Bristol’s vibrant bars and local pubs, many with live music, craft drinks, and late-night vibes. Whether you're looking for a lively post-gig pint or a quieter cocktail, you’re in good company here. No on-site bar, but plenty within a short walk.

What People Say

Guests love the friendly staff, great location, and the charming character of the building. Many mention the breakfast as a welcome bonus after a night out. It’s praised as good value, especially for a central location that’s still relaxed and peaceful.

Areas for Improvement

Some reviews note that the décor could use a refresh, and the older building means a few squeaky floorboards—but most agree it adds to the quirky charm. Parking is limited and costs extra, so plan ahead or opt for public transport.

The Bottom Line

With its prime location, friendly vibe, and breakfast included, The Washington is a smart and cozy choice for concert-goers looking to enjoy Bristol’s music scene without breaking the bank.

We made it work.

Liked: Loved the staff, they were absolutely lovely even when the breakfast team were swamped one morning, they remained calm and helpful. The breakfast menu though simple was well executed and filling!Loved the high ceiling of the building as it made even the smallest room spacious. The pillows and duvet were super fluffy with a good weight to them and helped give a cosy feeling after a long walk about doing the Gromit Unleashed 3 trail.
Disliked: We weren't a fan in finding out that they had changed our family room to a double with a fold out bed. Being a family of 5 this meant that due to the unavailability of a bigger room on the 1st night we had to get creative with extra bedding and have 2 of the children sleep on the floor. This was solved for the next 2 nights with an extra single room with a cot for the youngest which she loved!Doing the Gromit Unleashed 3 trail the location wasn't a bad walk to the main cluster in the centre but the up hill walk back was a little hard for those with little legs.

Very good

Liked: Breakfast was nice and the staff were lovely and very attentive. Reception staff were also great and very helpful
Disliked: The bathroom in our room could do with being updated or at least put in a better shower but it was all clean and we were only staying one night

Outdated and dirty.

Liked: Location and that’s it!
Disliked: We were in room 24 - family room - double bed and single bed. The floor was uneven, wire from hair dryer was loose and unsecured. Shower cabinet had mould and was really dirty. Cracks in walls, paint was pilling & bathroom ceiling was damaged and repaired with plywood painted in white. Furniture was outdated and sheets were stained. Breakfast poor quality with no options. The £18 for 24h parking 9:00am to 09:00am was the cherry on top. The only good thing about The Washington is the location and Really Friendly and Lovely Staff!

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Very disappointing. Staff need organising...

Liked: Room was ok.
Disliked: Staff not particularly friendly or welcoming. We had an agreed time for breakfast of 9.20 and due to a delay we didn’t go in until 9.50. Our breakfast wasn’t served until 10.45. We weren’t offered a drink and had to ask for our order to be taken. The breakfast was then missing some items and came at different times. Shambolic. We then got asked why we hadn’t checked out at 11.00!

Good

Liked: The room was large and spacious and the girl on reception on the 22.08.25 was absolutely amazing and really helpful.
Disliked: The room was absolutely boiling even the fans didn't cool it down and the window was left open so a bird had entered and pooed all over the bed and nicked the milk and ate part of an apple left in the fruit bowl.
