This is an older hotel, with small rooms and a small, older elevator. If you have catastrophe you would not want to spend the night in the room. A great place to eat, drink and socialize.

Liked: Food, drinks and people.
Disliked: It was just okay.

When I booked my reservation I chose this hotel based on the assumption that since the price was not cheap and the pictures looked so high end that the hotel staff would be up to par as well. Assuming gets you no where and I should have known. Upon entering the building you are immediately taking in the deep red color scheme and the vintage decor. When me and my husband walked up to the front desk (at roughly 5pm) there was already a woman being helped by the one employee behind the desk. We waited patiently to be acknowledged, then I had to use the restroom - I returned to find my husband still waiting. After 10 minutes or so we decided to order drinks from the bar, which is located in the lobby. The drinks were poured and served. Still not so much as a "Welcome to the Washington Inn" or "I'll be right with you". I was becoming irritated at this point as we had dinner reservations in an hour or so. When the woman ahead of us finally left, the very young man standing behind the desk asked if we needed to check in. I wanted to reply "nope we just like to hang out in hotel lobbies while holding suitcases" but I didn't. He did say "thanks for being patient" but I felt that a greeting to start with would have been nice and gone much further in terms of what I expect from someone who works in the service industry. I was asked for my ID and credit card - after both my cards were declined I knew it couldn't be me. He called the manager who told him over the phone to restart the router. At this point me and my husband had been waiting in the lobby of this fine establishment for almost a half hour just to check in! I was not about to wait for a router to reboot too! No way in hell. I kindly asked if we could please have our room keys now if I left my credit card at the front desk, so we wouldn't be late to our dinner. The young man did give us our room keys but still no apologies for any inconvenience or acknowledgement of time we had been waiting. I was in shock. One thing to keep in mind if you do choose to stay here is that there is no parking, no lot, no garage. You either have to pay $15 a day at the convention center across the street or find parking on the street and pay an hourly rate. Really sucked waking up at 8 am to go put money in the meter when you're supposed to be on vacation. To top it all off: the broken elevator. Our room was on the 3rd floor of this abnormally steep staircase and the elevator was broken. Now if you were the young man behind the front desk this would have been the perfect opportunity to redeem yourself by offering to help us carry our bags up 3 flights of stairs, right? No such luck. I hope the staff of the Washington Inn can read this and improve their service in the future. Cheers!

Disliked: Poor customer service; no parking.

Would stay again but ONLY...

Liked: The gentleman who booked me in on Sunday night was extremely nice.
Disliked: Lol, crossaints. Only one window in the room, overlooking the air conditioning unit. Bed very hard. Remote did not work well, but the location was excellent. Pity about the hotel.

Pleasant

Liked: Closeness to the BART and restaurants. Breakfast provided.
Disliked: Dirty marks on the room carpet which were know to hotel staff buy not dealt with.

Sleeping staff

Disliked: Was constantly locked outside after hours. Staff were sleeping at desk. Other guests locked out too even after slamming on the door.

Not the nicest place...

Liked: The cleaners were exceptional, cleaning outdated and tired areas is difficult but they did well. Always had clean towels and bedding.Tea and coffee available 24/7.
Disliked: The bar lady during the week used the 'f' word loudly on several occasions.Walking here from the ferry was quite scary in places, especially under the bridge.The decor is really dated, peeling paint, tatty carpets, iron scorch marks on carpets.Breakfast was limited, oatmeal packs with hot water is not palatable, a microwave would help. Mostly bread, cakes and buns with yoghurt.Noise at night. No aircon or working fan in the room. Safe in our room was low battery, we reported it on the first day but after 3 nights gave up.Cash machine never worked in the 3 nights we were there.

Liked: The breakfast was Okay. Location good easy to take bus or Bart go anywhere around bay area.
Disliked: I did not get daily soup and lotion replaced have to ask housekeeper .
