The Spotlight on The Village Inn

Cozy Village Stay with Easy Access to Durham & Newcastle

A charming, no-frills inn located in the quiet village of Murton, The Village Inn is a great base for concert-goers heading to gigs in Durham or Newcastle. With free WiFi, on-site parking, and a friendly village pub atmosphere, it’s a solid option for those looking for comfort without breaking the bank.

Why Concert-goers love it

Though it's tucked away in a peaceful village setting, The Village Inn is just a short drive from major music hubs like Durham (9.3 miles) and Newcastle (20 miles). The quiet location offers a welcome escape after a loud night out, and with free private parking, it’s ideal for those driving to shows. Flexible check-in from 4:00 PM gives you time to settle in before heading out, and an 11:00 AM check-out means you can rest up the next morning.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends heading to Durham or Newcastle gigs
  • Solo travelers chasing their favorite bands
  • Couples planning a quiet weekend getaway with a concert
  • Fans wanting a peaceful night’s sleep after the encore
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who prefer to spend more on tickets than a room

Food and Drink Options

The on-site bar serves drinks in a classic village pub setting—perfect for a pre-show pint or nightcap. While there’s no 24/7 room service or late-night dining, the nearby area has local eateries within a short drive. Guests can also make use of in-room electric kettles for a quick morning brew.

Nightlife Options

This isn’t the place for on-site live music or rowdy bars, but that’s part of the charm. It's ideal for those looking to wind down after the gig. If you're up for more nightlife, Durham and Newcastle offer plenty of post-show options within reach.

What People Say

Guest reviews often highlight the friendly staff, clean and comfy rooms, and quiet location. The value for money is frequently praised, especially by visitors attending events in the nearby cities. Many also appreciate the free parking and simple, efficient check-in process.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the décor is a bit dated, and a few rooms could use a modern refresh. There’s no on-site restaurant for late-night meals, and you’ll need to travel a bit for concert venues or nightlife—but that’s a fair trade for the peaceful setting.

The Bottom Line

If you're after an affordable, quiet place to crash after a concert in Durham or Newcastle, The Village Inn delivers comfort, convenience, and character in equal measure.

Great value for money and...

Liked: Great location for us as we were attending a wedding at a venue near by. Short drive to the coast, Seaham is lovely little seaside town with pretty harbour. About 20mins in to Durham City itself. Rooms were clean and comfortable with fresh towels, hand soap and shower gel in room. Wall mounted smart TV too . Staff were so friendly as were the locals in the pub…all ages and all just so welcoming…busy little place. No food served but they have lots of take away menus available and happy to have your food delivered there. We sampled the Chinese and were not disappointed! On the Friday night, they had a singer on and a game of bingo! We were up dancing with the locals and met friendly lady called Margaret who was there with her crowd. Various shops and larger supermarkets within 5minutes drive.
Disliked: Only recommendations would be perhaps a couple of wall hooks or towel rail in room to hang towels. The little reception type area could benefit from a table top fridge just to keep the sandwiches and snacks we bought cool. But no issues at all really.

Liked: We were only there for one night so I it was ok for that stay.
Disliked: The room we stayed in (No7) was at the back of property there was a tall lamb in the garden that shone in the room & it stayed on most of the night. The bathroom had no where to hang your towels neither did the bedroom .

Liked: Bedroom was good .. dog friendly and clean .. didn't use the pub or eat so can't comment .. location was good if that's where u need to be .. we were visiting family .. really nice park just up the road before you get to Dalton retail park which again is walkable and dog friendly.
Disliked: some of fittings in ensuite could have done with a little maintenance (taps loose) didn't affect our stay .. pub was a bit noisy below ..
