The Spotlight on The Swan Streatley Berkshire

Charming Riverside Retreat Near Reading’s Music Scene

Nestled along the banks of the River Thames in the picturesque village of Streatley, The Swan Streatley Berkshire blends historic charm with modern comforts. Dating back to the 1700s, this beautifully restored hotel offers a tranquil setting just a 20-minute drive from Reading’s lively entertainment venues. With stylish, individually decorated rooms and stunning river views, it’s a peaceful yet convenient base for music lovers.

Why Concert-goers love it

You’re just a short 10-minute walk to Goring and Streatley Railway Station, giving you easy train access to Reading, Didcot, and beyond – perfect for making post-concert travel a breeze. The quiet village setting ensures a restful night after the show, while the 4:00 PM check-in gives you plenty of time to arrive and get ready. The hotel’s atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, ideal for winding down after a big night.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends looking for a stylish and scenic place to gather
- Solo travelers ticking an artist off their bucket list
- Couples planning a romantic concert weekend
- Fans needing a quiet space to recover post-gig
- Budget-conscious music lovers wanting value without sacrificing charm

Food and Drink Options

The on-site Coppa Club serves up Mediterranean-inspired dishes and creative cocktails, ideal for a pre-show dinner or late-night bite. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the restaurant has flexible hours, and the area offers a few nearby options within walking distance. Breakfast is available – perfect for a slow, post-concert morning.

Nightlife Options

While the village itself is laid-back, Reading’s buzzing nightlife is just a short train ride away. Back at the hotel, the Coppa Club’s riverside terrace is a great spot for a nightcap with a view. Expect a more chilled vibe than party-heavy hotels – great for decompressing after a high-energy show.

What People Say

Guests rave about the beautiful riverside location, stylish interiors, and friendly staff. The peaceful setting and scenic walks nearby are often highlighted, making it a favorite for those who like to combine music with a bit of relaxation. The Coppa Club’s menu and cocktails also get plenty of praise.

Areas for Improvement

WiFi can be spotty in some parts of the property, and those without a car may find late-night returns a bit tricky if train service is limited. Also, while the village is charming, don’t expect a buzzing nightlife scene – but that might be just what you’re after.

The Bottom Line

A scenic, stylish escape just a train ride from Reading’s concert venues – ideal for music fans who want to mix great shows with riverside relaxation.

A lovely hotel in a...

Liked: The hotel is in a beautiful village set right on the river Thames. It has a lovely atmosphere and is always buzzing with other guests and locals using the facilities. There are several places to eat on site or in the village itself. Our room overlooked the river and had a balcony which was a huge bonus. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Disliked: There is no air conditioning and as we were staying in a heat wave it got quite warm in the room. They did provide a fan though which helped.

Lovely hotel. Just needs managing...

Liked: Stayed here many times. Great location, and very smart place
Disliked: The staff are not very attentive. I emailed ahead asking for early check in. I didn’t get a reply. Then when I did check in, they told me my room possibly wouldn’t be ready for the specified 3pm. I had a coffee and the. Went to discuss. And they eventually got our room ready early.Went for a drink later in the bar. 5 people behind the bar. Just kept looking over at us and then eventually asked if we wanted anything

Our positives mean we would...

Liked: Location and the facilities were outstanding. The interior design complemented the surroundings , rooms were a great size and facilties in the room were fanstastic. Fresh milk and water kept in the fridge in your room was a great touch. Gym facilities and changing rooms had everything you needed. We ate an evening meal in the Coppa Club and our whole group pretty much covered the majority of the dishes. Great variety of dishes to suit all. Mixed opinions on the steak but my carbonara was amazing ! Fantasitc views overlooking the River and the bridge.
Disliked: No air con ! This is a basic in premier inns, but staying in a hotel at over £200 a night you would expect this also as standard. We had a pedestal fan that just circulated hot air. Due to the weather conditions the rooms were unbearably hot. If you are unable to fit air con then maybe individual air con units in the room would be sufficent. Staff werent very friendly, the receptionist that checked us in was lovely and welcoming but as were were leaving their were about 5 staff talking at the desk. I said "excuse me" to get passed the lady who usually worked behind the bar by reception and she cut me the daggers. She was also rude and made me wait ages without acknowledging me when I stood at the bar requiring some water. I wasnt there to spend time with the staff so it didnt upset the stay. Hospitaity is hard work but you can always paint on a smile and discuss work issues away from guests. The beds were rock hard. I prefer a firm mattress but I woke multiple times in the night as I was uncomfortable. Really strange that you have to walk round to get to the Coppa Club as there is function room in the middle. You were forced to walk on to the road as delivery trucks were pulled on to the pavements. The Hotel would benefit from creating a private pathway riverside for residents to walk between the two bars. Thre was path but it said no entry. It is also very stressfull trying to get in and out in a car as the access road off the main road is very tight. Maybe beer deliveries need to be made at 7am and not as people are leaving at around 11am.

Exceptional

Liked: Amazing hotel with a superb breakfast, beautiful location, and incredible staff.
Disliked: We stayed here in June during a very hot day. Our room faced west and received direct sun all afternoon, reaching 34°C. The hotel provided a fan, but it wasn’t enough to cool the room. It was very hard to stay in the room and get a proper night’s sleep.
