Pretty outdated. Breakfast was average; elevator as we were going up decided to skip a beat and freak me out, thought I was going to crash.
Liked: Very spacious jacuzzi room.
Disliked: Outdated, and there was water dripping from the ceiling all night and all they did for us was give us $25 off. Wish we could have moved to another room as I didn't get any sleep with hearing that dripping all night.

We were in town to attend a concert at AMSOIL arena, so the hotel was very conveniently located. We knew when we booked that we would have an interior room with no windows but were still a bit surprised by how dark the room was. The lighting was poor and the walls were very thin. We heard our neighbor's alarm go off repeatedly and then his entire phone conversation. The room was fairly large but there was a very large pillar in the middle of it, near the corner of the bed. The room was clean but the decor was very dated. Breakfast was the standard pastries and DIY waffles - not very impressive considering the room cost and ratings. The happy hour at Timber Lodge was a nice touch, if you drink. Considering the number of hotels in Duluth, I'd recommend staying elsewhere.
Liked: Comfortable bed; convenient location.
Disliked: Dark room; no windows; very dated; very thin walls.

Worst stay ever
Liked: That it's located in canal park
Disliked: Stay for my son's July wedding. Had reservation for 7 months and repeatedly requested noon or 1pm check-in because I did all fresh flowers for wedding, would have them all with me and didn't want to expose them to afternoon heat & sun and would need to do final prep on arrangements & bride's bouquet. Week of wedding called to check on early check in request and was told call day before arrival and we can confirm if early check in possible. I had to call w/another question and checked on my request again and told call back and request noted. I called day before arrival and told very rudely there was no way they could confirm my early check in! I had grandmother of bride and father of bride riding with me and had no idea to advise them on time of our departure due to hotel response. This caused a lot of stress and scrambling on how to best protect flowers with possibility of having to sit in car for several hours if we left early in hopes of early check in. I just wanted yes or no answer. Hotel staff I spoke to could not have cared less about my request or concerns. Our kitchenette was not properly equipped, our room phone to contact front desk or housekeeping was not connected or a live, working phone, inside cupboards were dirty and sticky, cold water in room didn't work, at best lukewarm showers. No instructions provided on best way to unload from car with inconvenient parking set up. Key cards repeatedly had to be reprogrammed involving several trips to front desk. Any need for additional towels, coffee, etc. Always involved trip to front desk. No housekeeping service. On the phone and in person, some of the rudest & unprofessional staff I've ever encountered in all my travels!Parking is a mess! Very difficult to unload & load your car. Parking across street can't take luggage cart from hotel entrance to car because of stairs then crossing busy road.

Very good
Liked: We liked the historic charm of the building. We had a king suite that had a window overlooking the drydocked Irwin. There was a full kitchenette, which was nice, a loveseat, and a seperate bedroom. The air conditioning worked well, the bed was comfortable, and the room was clean. Coffee was available all day. Breakfast was standard fare. The elevators worked well, which is good for a historic site, and required a key to use for security, which we appreciated. The location was great, with Old Chicago Pizza, Red Lobster, and Adventure Zone within a few steps. The lift bridge is at the end of the block and Canal Park is a few blocks away. There aren't views of the lake, but we were able to book one night over July 4, which wasn't available at several of the other Canal Park hotels. We walked to the July 4 concerts and fireworks.
Disliked: The ice machine was out of order with a sign to get ice from the front desk. It would have been nice to know that when we checked in. The lobby and breakfast area did not seem to be air-conditioned and was stuffy.

Liked: Great location, and for a holiday weekend, the price wasn't too bad.
Disliked: The room had not been vacuumed when we arrived, and it would have been nice to have had hand soap in the kitchen area. Otherwise, it was a nice room.
