The Spotlight on The Station Hotel

Stylish Highland Retreat for Music and Whisky Lovers

The Station Hotel is a charming 4-star boutique hotel in the heart of Rothes, just a short walk from iconic whisky distilleries and scenic countryside. With only 15 individually designed luxury rooms, this hotel blends classic elegance with modern comfort. Whether you're in town for a concert, a distillery tour, or both, its relaxed atmosphere and attentive service make it a standout choice in Speyside.

Why Concert-goers love it

The Station Hotel puts you just minutes from local music spots and walking distance from Glen Grant, Glenrothes, and Glen Spey distilleries—ideal if you're catching a concert tied to a whisky festival or local venue. Thanks to its quiet village location, you'll enjoy peaceful nights post-show. The 24-hour front desk makes late check-ins easy, and with a 16:00 check-in and 11:00 check-out, the timing suits most event schedules.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a stylish base between music and whisky tastings
  • Solo travelers chasing a bucket-list band and a dram or two
  • Couples making a romantic weekend of live music and Highland scenery
  • Fans seeking peace and quiet after a high-energy performance
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who still want a touch of luxury

Food and Drink Options

The on-site restaurant serves up local Scottish fare with a gourmet twist, ideal for pre- or post-show dining. Guests rave about the full Scottish breakfast, served daily and perfect after a late night. The bar offers a robust selection of local whiskies and wines, and while room service isn't 24/7, staff are known to accommodate late-night cravings when possible.

Nightlife Options

While Rothes isn't known for a wild club scene, you'll find cozy pubs and hotel bars nearby pouring local spirits and occasional live folk music. The hotel's own bar is perfect for a nightcap or pre-show cocktail. For those willing to explore, nearby towns offer more nightlife within a short drive.

What People Say

Guests love the hotel's attention to detail, friendly staff, and peaceful atmosphere. Many highlight the exceptional food and whisky selection, as well as the stylish, spacious rooms with scenic views. The location is praised for being both central and quiet—a rare combo.

Areas for Improvement

Some reviewers mention that the hotel is better suited for those with a car, as public transport options are limited in the area. Also, while luxurious, the hotel is small—so book early if you're planning around a concert or festival.

The Bottom Line

The Station Hotel is a luxurious yet relaxed base for concert-goers looking to mix live music with world-class whisky and Highland charm.

Would definitely recommend

Liked: The staff are all very friendly and extremely knowledgeable of their whiskies. The food is great and I would recommend the tasting menu along with the Whisky flight. Rooms were spacious and clean. With plenty of space and tables in the courtyard to enjoy the sun.
Disliked: It was a little warm to sleep. Given the rarity of 25+ celcius days in Scotland I don't forsee it being a problem in most instances.

Fine for the purpose of...

Liked: The hotel was nice. Toots bar was nothing special, far preferred the whisky bar to sit in. It was good for breakfast but it just felt like any bar and not wonderful to sit in for a nice meal. Food was good though. Lovely and hot dinner. Breakfast was fine. Hotel room was comfy but slightly dated however we had just come from a contemporary 4star hotel so probably made it look slightly old fashioned. Probably suited the style.
Disliked: It was not a criticism as such but the staff although fine, helpful and friendly didn't particularly have a 'managing/working in a 4 star hotel' feel to them. I was a little confused about who was in charge, they seemed to have their friends or people they knew in the bar - couldn't quite work it out but it just felt slightly odd for the calibre of hotel. They were efficient though and easy to deal with so as I say not a criticism just an observation.

A nice one night stay...

Liked: Lovely little hotel. Nice and close for visits to Macallan and Glenfiddich. It was nice having the whisky room to come back to after the day
Disliked: The immediate area it’s in doesn’t have much going on

Liked: Excellent location if visiting Distillery close by. Luxury touches in the rooms. Really good whiskey bar
Disliked: Our room was warm. Could not open windows on the ground floor as people were walking past often
