Located in the heart of Ticknall The Staff of Life is a welcoming 4-star country inn housed in a Grade II Listed building south of Derby. Rooms are stylishly decorated with private bathrooms and many have original features. Some of the rooms have a large plasma-screen TV. Free wireless broadband is available in all of the rooms. Lovely stay with attentive staff...

Liked: Nice warm welcome by staff, who were very attentive. Pub is located in a lovely area. The room was nice and clean. Good selection of beers and the food was excellent. Great breakfast in the morning.
Disliked: Only thing to note is if you have mobility issues, the stairs to the bedroom were narrow and in a semi spiral which could make access difficult. No problem for us though.

Comfortable, clean and we would...

Liked: The room was exactly as we'd asked for. The bed was nice and comfortable and the room was very clean with good facilities. It was all as described in Bookings.com, with no nasty surprises. The breakfast was in the pub and was lovely; setting us very well for the day ahead. We ate in the pub on the first night and the food was very nice, with a good selection on the menu. John & Jane are very welcoming and make the stay a nicer experience.
Disliked: Like many/most bed & breakfast-type locations in the UK, it would be nice to have a fridge in the room for personal use. They are not common but maybe, one day :-)

A good value stay in...

Liked: The room was spotless clean and comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent, and the home-made balti for dinner was a great choice.
Disliked: I didn't expect to have air con, but it would have helped on the second floor on one of the hottest days of the year - but the fan helped a lot.
