A weekend stay

Liked: The location is both good (and bad... see below) it's close enough to both Exeter and Exmouth by car or bus (bus stops are right outside), although the local train station is a good 15 minute walk or a short bus ride away. The Family Room was adequate with a very comfy bed, a large Freeview TV, and a loverly overhead rose-head walk-in shower. There is plenty of hot water and an adequate number of towels for the occupancy.Breakfast was very nice, especially the Full English, which was more than adequate. It's a shame the small Full English isn't advertised on the menu. The breakfast team staff were very pleasant and very helpful.A large carpark with ample spaces and a large beer garden to the rear of the Hotel/Public House.
Disliked: The downside of the location is that the St G & D is on a busy road/roundabout where the traffic noise continues late into the night and starts again early. As there's no AC in the rooms, it can be extremely noisy if you have one of the front facing rooms with the windows open. The windows are in a poor state of repair with loose latches and fittings. The 24-hour access (and Fire Escape) for some of the first floor rooms is precarious up a wooden staircase and takes you past the staff smoking/outdoor area. It's a dirty area and something that we shouldn't have to see. Less than ideal. I don't understand why there isn't one main ground floor access door to all rooms and then access the first floor via the main staircase. The hotel is tired. I understand it's an old Coaching House, but some bedroom and hallway floors creak, windows are not double glazed, and some paintwork and walls are heavily damaged and marked. Some carpet areas downstairs in high volume areas are worn through.Arriving late (9pm) and in the middle of evening food service, the staff didn't really explain after-hours access to the building or ask if we wanted to dine in the restaurant that evening, or give an idea what time the restaurant would close.I thought the price for a Family Room for two nights was quite expensive for this Inkeeper Collection Hotel/Public House.I disagree with the Booking.com score of 8.0

Don’t stay in room 1!

Liked: I have stayed at this hotel before and have always been happy here. I like the location, staff, parking, breakfast and beer garden.
Disliked: The room. It is the first time I have stayed in room 1 and it was like a cell. Luckily I was only there for one night this time or I would have left anyway. It was awful. It was dark because had to keep the curtains drawn because the bathroom window had clear glass so anyone could see in one side of it. It was very small and just not comfortable at all. I was shocked because the rooms before have been lovely.
