The Spotlight on The Sono Chicago

Stylish Comfort in the Heart of Old Town

The Sono Chicago is a modern, boutique-style hotel nestled in Chicago’s charming Old Town neighborhood. With a clean, minimalist design and welcoming vibe, it's a peaceful retreat just minutes from the city's iconic attractions and music venues. Guests enjoy free parking with a permit, and every room comes with a flat-screen TV with premium cable and a private bathroom featuring a spacious shower. A complimentary continental breakfast makes mornings easy, especially after a late night out.

Why Concert-goers love it

If you're heading to a show, The Sono Chicago puts you in a prime location. You're a quick rideshare or transit hop from major concert venues while staying in a quiet, residential area—perfect for post-show relaxation. The flexible check-in at 15:00 and check-out at 11:00 also gives you time to rest and recharge. Free parking is a huge perk if you're driving in for a gig.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for easy access to nightlife and events
  • Solo travelers catching a bucket-list performance
  • Couples making a weekend of it with nearby attractions
  • Fans who want a quieter, laid-back place to recover post-show
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who value free perks like breakfast and parking

Food and Drink Options

While The Sono Chicago doesn’t have an on-site restaurant, the free daily continental breakfast is a nice touch before heading out. Old Town’s vibrant dining scene is just blocks away, offering everything from late-night bites to upscale eats. Whether you’re craving deep-dish pizza or craft cocktails, you’ll find it within walking distance.

Nightlife Options

Old Town is known for its lively yet relaxed nightlife. You’re near legendary comedy clubs, cozy wine bars, and local taverns with great beer selections. While there’s no on-site bar, the area offers plenty of post-show spots to keep the night going—or wind it down.

What People Say

Reviews frequently praise the hotel’s cleanliness, quiet atmosphere, and friendly staff. Guests love the neighborhood feel and how close it is to everything without being in the thick of noisy downtown. The free parking and comfortable beds also get consistent shout-outs.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention the hotel is more of a bed-and-breakfast vibe than a full-service hotel—so if you're expecting a concierge or bar, plan accordingly. Also, there’s no elevator, so those with mobility issues should request a lower floor.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking for a stylish, peaceful place to crash after a show—without straying too far from the action—The Sono Chicago hits the right note.

This was an overpriced choice...

Liked: The common areas were well appointed and comfortable. The room and common areas were very clean. These ease of checking in and out was nice. Receiving a parking permit for the car was included in the price, even though it is street parking, not private parking so there is no guarantee of safety.
Disliked: For starters, this property is not 30 minutes away from either airport, even if you were arriving in the middle of the night. It is also more than 1 and a half miles away from the Mag Mile. The room is grossly misrepresented in the photos, as far as size. It's tiny! You are literally 4 feet from the door when you're in bed. Two normal adults cannot walk around without bumping into each other. The windows do not open for any air circulation. There are no chairs and nothing to sit on other than the bed. You have no choice but to sit with nothing to lean against or lay down. There are ample pillows but they are all flat. The bathroom is large, but the vanity is too small to hold any of your personal toiletries. The shower is large with a bench to sit on, but there is no where hang your wet towels. Most importantly, there is no climate control in the rooms. We had to put towels on the air conditioning vents because it was too cool in our room. We called the front desk the first time to complain and the gentleman agreed to raise the temperature. That lasted about an hour before the cooling system kicked in again and we had the same problem. After calling a second time, the man offered to bring us vent covers, but at that point we were already undressed and ready for bed. The so called Continental breakfast was adequate but nothing that would merit the price paid for staying there. We spent over 400 dollars to sleep in a tiny room with our clothes on and eat frozen croissants from Costco Wholesale Club. This room is hardly suitable for for one person, and certainly not a good choice for a couple. Chicago is filled with much better choices at this price.

Liked: Beautiful property! Nestled into a neighborhood with upscale buildings and tree-lined streets. A parking pass was provided, and parking was available within a block. Breakfast was ample and the shared spaces in the building were all very attractive, spacious, and welcoming.
Disliked: I can't think of a thing! It was great!

Disliked: There was. nothing to dislike.

It was a horrible experience.

Disliked: Booked a room for four nights. A hospital stay for my mother necessitated a last minute change in my plans. Notified them on Tuesday ahead of a Thursday-Sunday stay. Got no sympathy from the staff. $2200 DOWN THE DRAIN. I indicated I would pay for half the stay, similar to a policy in place at major/reputable hotels. No movement on their end. I have nothing good to say about the Sono. Will never ever stay there and will spread the word far and wide about my experience.

Disliked: We got a parking ticket for parking on the street when street cleaning was going to happen. I wish we would have been warned about that. The signs are not clear to an out of towner.
