The worst I’ve stayed in

Liked: Nothing
Disliked: The young lad, who seemed to be the only person there when we arrived, had no idea we were staying and nothing was prepared. He did his best to find the keys for an available room and eventually found us one. He explained that the owners had gone away and he hadn’t been told there was anyone staying. He looked bewildered. He tried calling the owners but they didn’t answer. He asked us if we were supposed to have breakfast included, I said yes and he then told us that the chef had left so we wouldn’t be getting that. I asked what we can do about the price due to this, he said he has no idea how to take a payment for a booking so we’ll end up staying for free anyway. He then said he’s got to go back downstairs to serve the pub customers, but would come up to speak to us again in a few minutes. That was the last we saw of him. The room was pretty disgusting, fairly grimy with a layer of dust. There was tiles hanging off the wall around the bath, and the bath side panel just kept falling out. Also when I tried to open a window I found the top hinge wasn’t attached and the whole window nearly fell out onto the outdoor seating area, 3 floors below us. These things were simply dangerous and unacceptable, and you should not be having anyone staying in this ‘family room’ until they’re fixed. The pub was open when we left the next morning but there didn’t seem to be anyone around, so after waiting and shouting ‘hello’ for 5 minutes we just left the keys on the till. So we didn’t get any breakfast, as the lad had warned us, not even any toast. This is advertised as 3* but it’s barely 1*. A week after my stay they charged my credit card and won’t respond back to my messages.

Lovely place, shame about the...

Liked: Lovely Historic Community Pub kept alive by the people that use it and support it and by the pleasant and caring staff. Lovely historic artefacts and pictures. Stained glass windows. Great looking building. A perfectly satisfactory stay, although no longer Posh.
Disliked: A lovely historic Pub Hotel suffering from Brewery and Management company Neglect and profiteering. The Staff and regulars give the pub a good atmosphere and a great history. It is loved by those that use it and well served by the Staff that are employed and part of a good community. Buggered by corporate greed and neglect. The room wood floor and lovely old staircase floor and banisters need a good clean.

Positive and negative

Liked: Friendly staff. Comfortable beds. Ideal location.
Disliked: Many stairs, unexpected. We knew about the shared bathroom, but couldn't open door to get back to room after shower. Didn't think to take combination code. No hairdryer. No toilet roll. Rotten food in fridge on landing. No breakfast as advertised, but recompensed.

I think my above two...

Liked: Nothing. I’ve made a complaint and trying to have monies refunded. DO NOT BOOK TO STAY HERE!Unhelpful staff. Freezing cold. No chef so no breakfast which we paid to have included! No hot water. Not given instruction of how to get into resident door after hours do at 11.30pm when we came back from a family function we could not get in. The number left did not ring so we had to call a relative, wake them up so we could sofa surf! No apology given.
Disliked: It’s clear closing down/ changing hands so customer service is not a priority but clearly taking your money is. We paid almost £360 for two rooms ( bed & breakfast) for two nights. One room was left vacant for the whole two nights because room was soo cold and communal bathroom had no hot water . They slept on the floor of a friend- NO refund offered. The other room was only used for one night because they were locked out on the second night and they could use their en-suite because there was no hot water - they had to shower at a friends house- again, no refund offered.

Zero effort made on breakfast,...

Liked: The location was good, close to shops and short walk from beach.
Disliked: Breakfast was literally packets of cereals and tiny cartons of UHT milk left on the stairs. Not even seats to sit down, drinks etc. There was no shower curtain in the bathroom so I couldn't have a shower and no bathmat. Bare bulb, no towel rail, non working bedside light. Also I had no cup to make a drink in (but was given one when I traipsed downstairs to the bar and asked for one).

Don’t

Disliked: Booked an overnight stay walking the Cleveland Trail. Reserved a deluxe double room with double bed including breakfast. In the evening we were requested to pay, already at the bar and informed that there was no breakfast as there was no cook . As compensation for the 2 times full English 10 pound was subtracted from the bill.Going to the room trough an old stairwell there is the kitchen and in front a fridge, with decaying food residues. Room was not as we expected from the pictures and 3 star (?) rating, metal bed was repaired with wood but mattress was still hollow, shower curtain yellow at bottom, holes in the dry wall bathroom, bathroom tiles broken and moving, no bags in waste bins, heating was off but small electric heater there that could not heat room.In the morning we found the building empty, expect of an older couple that tried to leave but could not find anyone to check out (note: on the bedroom door mentioned the when leaving before 9 h. you should close your door and drop key in letterbox). Backdoor was still unlocked (with homeless man sitting outside). The bar looked nice (and has good reviews on google), as we experienced it I cannot recommend the hotel.Erik

Huge mistake

Liked: . Nothing
Disliked: Was very cold. Room was in the gods. Lots of stairs to climb .bath panel hanging off. Bedding smelled damp . No carpet on floor. Looked dirty. Feet were sticking to floor when walking anywhere in the building. Rubbish on the landing. No chefs so no meals. Not even breakfast. Said that the price charged would reflect this but they have still taken full amount
