Perfect base for exploring the...

Liked: The location is perfect for a day of walking, with some beautiful scenery on the doorstep. The staff were very welcoming and couldn’t do enough to accommodate us during our stay. The food was excellent. Bed comfortable, shower awesome. Will be returning.

Pleasant

Liked: Nice relaxed pub Inn, plenty of parking and nice breakfast.
Disliked: There is a bare minimum that a hotel has to get right, which is a good night sleep. Unfortunately in my room there was a bright neon green safety light on the ceiling which couldn't be turned off, and this illuminated the room all night, guaranteeing a rubbish night sleep. I would not stay here again on that basis unfortunately.

Liked: Lovely pub, friendly staff and good beer. Lovely breakfast. Ideal base for walking or travelling into Buxton.

Disappointing

Liked: The food was really good - pub grub. We’d just stayed in two different hotels (one near Lindisfarne and one overlooking Robin Hood’s Bay with a pool) The Shady Oak charged nearly £20 more.
Disliked: Didn’t like the bedding - grey sheets and no top sheet.

A brilliant country pub to...

Liked: Great location, amazing views and walks from the doorstep. The room was immaculate, the staff were lovely and friendly and the breakfast was perfect…exactly what we needed to set us up for a day hiking. We loved it that much, we decided we’d end our hike back there and grab a Sunday roast. We were a bit later than we’d said, but they saved enough lamb for us and went to the trouble of preparing the meal, even though the kitchen had technically closed by the time we got back. An absolutely amazing gesture and very much appreciated. We’d definitively recommend and will be staying again in the future.
