Fantastic Location, But Serious Cleanliness...

Liked: I stayed at this hotel during a recent visit to Edinburgh and, while there were a few highlights, overall the experience was disappointing due to issues with cleanliness and poor communication around billing. On the positive side, the location is truly excellent – right next to the Caledonian Hotel and within walking distance of everything central. The view of Edinburgh Castle from the room was stunning, and the room itself was spacious, which is a rarity in city centre hotels.
Disliked: Several aspects of the stay fell well below expectations. The overall cleanliness was questionable: the corridor had a strong, artificial smell from plug-in air fresheners, which felt like an attempt to mask deeper issues. The lift was very small and the glass casing was smeared and dirty – not exactly a welcoming sight. The room layout was awkward, with the door opening barely a metre from the bed. There were visible stains on the curtain casings, furniture and carpets, and the bed linen – which felt quite low in quality – also had marks on it. The toilet flush only worked after multiple attempts, and we noticed bags of clean linen sitting in the stairwell for an entire day, which didn’t reflect well on the housekeeping standards. The most concerning issue came at checkout and afterward. My bank alerted me to a declined £714 charge, which the hotel denied initiating. Instead, they cited minibar and restaurant charges—though we never used the restaurant—and promised a follow-up that never came. A later call from the hotel brought no clarity, with staff unaware of previous conversations and unable to provide itemised billing. Two further unauthorised charge attempts were made after checkout, with no explanation.Overall, poor cleanliness, disorganised communication, and unexplained billing left me frustrated. I hope the hotel takes these issues seriously, especially regarding transparency and guest trust.

Come for the amazing room...

Liked: Book this room! It’s amazing you will feel like royalty. Or at least what you think they will feel like. The view alone is worth the trip. The front is unassuming but the rooms are special.
Disliked: Not did not like but be aware that if stairs are not your friend staying in the space may be difficult but not impossible.
