The staff and food were...

Liked: We have been dining in the Rutland Arms for years and the standard of the food remains excellent.
Disliked: The room was disappointing and really not up to the '4 star' rating. There was black mould in the bathroom, and the decor resembled student accommodation. It did feel like the hotel is over-reliant on its beautiful surroundings and history and not really paying attention to the lived experience of the guests.

Exceptional

Well located hotel with decent...

Liked: Staff were fabulous… extremely polite and attentive. Breakfast was very good. Dining room very pleasant, as was the bar and there were several areas with comfy sofas and chairs to relax in.
Disliked: Only real issue was the heat in our 2nd floor room overnight following extremely hot daytime temperatures. An electric fan was provided but didn’t have much impact - the hotel really does need to consider portable aircon units for the 2nd floor and possibly followed by the 1st and ground floors.

Very relaxing, if quite expensive....

Liked: Excellent breakfast, top of the scale. Friendly staff, comfortable room but a little noisy. Extremely hot weather necessitated open window at night.
Disliked: The tables in the lounges inside and outside were often filled with empty glasses and cups and even if empty were in need of a wipe down, which spoilt the appearance.

Superb

Liked: Staff excellent throughout the stay. Great location. Love the interior design. Food and drink were great.Will come back.
Disliked: Could do with a vegetarian breakfast option as well as Vegan.

Disliked: The room we stayed in was very warm and no air conditioning

Lovely stay

Liked: Location - bar, restaurant, decor, coffee shop
Disliked: Pillows not up to standard- uncomfortable mattress - ridiculously hot as we couldn’t do the windows more than a few inches. I understand the property is very old but the bathroom is ridiculously small. The toilet is not great as it is a real squeeze. It would be nice to have a mini fridge to keep the drinks cool as the water was very warm.. For the price of the rooms and to call it deluxe is not appropriate due to the really uncomfortable pillows.
