Was OK, but expensive for...

Liked: Pub staff were friendly. Food was good. Decor of room was vintage style and well thought out. All the room facilities were great and good shower.
Disliked: The room decor was tired and needed a refresh in places. Breakfast room was odd. Banquet tables with everyone’s place settings and no one clearing used breakfast dishes so if late lucky to find clean amongst the various used items for 20 other before you. Limited selection of very basic continental options but perfectly adequate.

Liked: The location is great, staff were very friendly and the food was amazing. Also, they were happy to accommodate for our cat Chester who appeared very popular!

Royal Oak was good butvwuth...

Liked: The star of the show was Emma, we think she was the house manager. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she did her best to make our stay as enjoyable as she could. The bedding was of good quality and the bed was very comfortable. The bedroom and bathroom size were good. The hotel is undergoing some improvement works which may have contributed for the two power cuts during our first night stay. There was also an issues with the hot water on both mornings and because it is an old type hotel and maybe the water has further to travel, perhaps I should have waited longer for the hot water to start coming through the tap , I don’t know. However a quick call to reception soon had things sorted out. Emma warned us about the WIFI being poor, and she was right it was intermittent at best. We didn’t eat at the hotel apart from one morning when we had the complimentary buffet breakfast of cereals, yoghurt, toast, jams etc, which was very nice. There was plenty of parking at the property. On the whole our stay was nice and the property was quite good if maybe a little tired. Just a few tweaks here and there and a bit of TLC and the hotel could be a great place to stay.
Disliked: There wasn’t anything that I didn’t like we had a few issues, but on the whole the hotel is bad it just needs a little love and attention.
