Great location, good amenities and...

Liked: The Ryal Hotel is in a good location, not very far from the ferry terminal and an easy walk from the long term parking. The staff are quite friendly. The breakfast chef is good for a chat with some very interesting stories about Stromness and the islands themselves. The wait and bar staff are also good value. One evening with only the Chinese take out available we were allowed to eat in the restaurant and were provided with plates and cutlery. When we had finished, our table was cleared. The implements and containers were removed without any fuss or trouble.
Disliked: The only drawback was the hotel restaurant was closed but post covid staffing this is understandable but please refer to the comment above, so more of a slight inconvenience that a criticism.

Liked: Good location close to the ferry terminal and was right in the downtown area. The staff bent over backwards to find an extra rollaway bed as I had made a mistake when booking and helped find an electric fan to help circulate the air in the room (it was uncomfortably hot on the first day). The beds were comfortable and clean.
Disliked: The room had very poor air flow with windows that open by tilting in at the top. The first day our room was close to 30 degrees until we opened the door and got a fan.

Disliked: Room on the top floor was smallish (though the bed was large) and the bathroom tiny. Wi-Fi was not working. Loved our stay nonetheless.
