The Royal Hotel

Staff were super friendly but...

Liked: The staff were very friendly. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was good but the order was wrong. I didn’t say anything as I was in a hurry but I’m sure if I had said anything they would have amended it straight away.
Disliked: The room was not as expected. It was warm so had to have the window and curtains open all night. Very dated. Bed had no headboard so made the room look cheap. There were what appeared to be 2 cold water taps but one was actually the hot tap (this tap was also very loose - could move it an inch in each direction!!). The tv was tiny. Could barely make things out when I was lying in bed trying to watch it. I felt the room was expensive for what you got! Stayed in another hotel the following night for over £50 less and it was much more modern.

Liked: It was very good plenty of choice it suited our taste.
Disliked: It's needing a little up dating. Mirror would be handy so as you could see your outfit the only mirror was in the bathroom. We could not open a window so room was quite stuffy.

Visiting relatives in Elgin, good...

Liked: Location into town and easy access to restaurants and supermarkets. Our deluxe King room had a super large comfortable bed and plenty of pillows. Bath towels were very large and thick. WiFi connection was very good despite the fact we were in the attic room. Tea& coffee and kettle plus ironing board in the room too. Big walk-in shower and plenty of parking on site for free. As we stayed a week, parking for a hired car is very important and many hotels didn't have on site parking.
Disliked: Firstly, despite a large walk-in shower, the electric shower was hopeless, had no pressure and very little water spray, not enough to wash my hair (female). Even the flushing water was generated electrically so it was a very noisy pump. Secondly There was no toilet paper holder so they just sat loosely on the radiator! Thirdly, being in the attic, the window was tiny and cannot be adjusted. It was permanently 3/4 open and on a warm night, very uncomfortable. Lastly, the bathroom door opens into the bedroom and touches the bed. I've managed to knock my husband's foot several times. Believe from other reviews, avoid booking the attic rooms. Also breakfast was served between 7-9am only. Too early for us!

Disliked: Couldn’t close bathroom plus so tight scratched back on toilet roll holder which was screwed onto bathroom door!!!

Disliked: Tennants draft was flat and wasn't right

Elgin visit

Liked: The staff were friendly, the food was good and the bed was very comfortable.
Disliked: The shower was a type we had not come across before so instructions would have been very useful.
