The Spotlight on The Royal Horseguards

Classic London elegance meets concert-night convenience

A stately and luxurious 4-star stay, The Royal Horseguards blends Victorian grandeur with modern comforts in the heart of London. Perfectly placed between the River Thames and Trafalgar Square, this Grade I listed building offers sweeping views of the London Eye and is a stone’s throw from Covent Garden and Theatreland. With its rich history and refined style, the hotel is a peaceful retreat after a high-energy night out.

Why Concert-goers love it

This hotel’s central location means you're walking distance from many of London’s top venues, including the National Gallery and West End theatres. Despite its prime spot, the atmosphere is calm and refined—ideal for winding down post-show. With a 3:00 PM check-in and an 11:00 AM check-out, there’s just enough flexibility for a quick nap before or after your event. Plus, nearby transport links make late-night returns easy.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends looking for a stylish home base near the action
- Solo travelers catching a once-in-a-lifetime gig
- Couples turning a concert into a romantic weekend
- Fans seeking a quiet, classy space after a loud night
- Budget-conscious music lovers who want upscale value in a central spot

Food and Drink Options

The on-site One Twenty One Two Restaurant is a hidden gem for pre- or post-concert meals, offering fine wine and seasonal British cuisine. There’s also an outdoor terrace perfect for relaxing with a drink. While there’s no 24/7 room service noted, the central location puts you within walking distance of Covent Garden eateries. Breakfast is available—essential after a late night out.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself is more about quiet luxury than live entertainment, you're steps from London’s buzzing nightlife. Walk to nearby bars, lounges, and late-night spots scattered around Theatreland and the South Bank. If you're after a quieter evening, the hotel bar serves up a refined nightcap with riverside charm.

What People Say

Guests rave about the hotel’s stunning location, noting it’s ideal for accessing London’s cultural and music hotspots. The views of the London Eye and the Thames are consistent highlights. Many appreciate the elegant décor, spacious rooms, and friendly staff. The Wi-Fi, Elemis toiletries, and complimentary mineral water are welcomed touches.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention the hotel’s classic style may feel a bit formal or traditional for younger travelers. A few noted that room soundproofing could be improved, so light sleepers may want to request a quieter room.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers wanting a blend of historic charm, central convenience, and peaceful comfort, The Royal Horseguards is a standout choice in the heart of London.

Charming property with many things...

Liked: Beds and pillows were very comfortable; excellent concierge (Faroq); doormen; room service staff. Charming property with interesting history. Provided a nice welcome gift for my mom’s birthday- thank you, she loved it!
Disliked: Ran out of hot water 2 of 8 days; towels were not soft and didn’t smell fresh; old curtains with holes in them (need an update).

Historic and luxurious hotel, with...

Liked: Oh my goodness -practically everything. The garden view was amazing. Bed ooooh so comfortable. Amenities were amazing - All the snacks and beverages were a huge plus and kept me satisfied and beyond. Wi Fi worked very well. Staff was very friendly and competent from bottom to top. I would have liked to have seen the staircase, but didn't have a chance. Access to the garden (albeit having to walk around the building to access) was a huge plus, and I spent every evening (5 !) in the garden for a good stretch of time. EXCELLENT location, less than 1/2 mile from most of the things I wanted to see. I will gladly stay here again!
Disliked: The air conditioning wasn't pumping cool air, and was unresponsive. The Caesar salad with chicken I ordered in the bar (in the menu about 20 pounds with chicken) was up priced exorbitantly on my bill. I didn't eat at the hotel again. I would also add that the bathtub width made it difficult to stand and shower, and the sides were soooo tall. Difficult for a shortie like me. Would update the TV channel selections.
