The Spotlight on The Royal Horseguards

Classic London elegance meets concert-night convenience

A stately and luxurious 4-star stay, The Royal Horseguards blends Victorian grandeur with modern comforts in the heart of London. Perfectly placed between the River Thames and Trafalgar Square, this Grade I listed building offers sweeping views of the London Eye and is a stone’s throw from Covent Garden and Theatreland. With its rich history and refined style, the hotel is a peaceful retreat after a high-energy night out.

Why Concert-goers love it

This hotel’s central location means you're walking distance from many of London’s top venues, including the National Gallery and West End theatres. Despite its prime spot, the atmosphere is calm and refined—ideal for winding down post-show. With a 3:00 PM check-in and an 11:00 AM check-out, there’s just enough flexibility for a quick nap before or after your event. Plus, nearby transport links make late-night returns easy.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends looking for a stylish home base near the action
- Solo travelers catching a once-in-a-lifetime gig
- Couples turning a concert into a romantic weekend
- Fans seeking a quiet, classy space after a loud night
- Budget-conscious music lovers who want upscale value in a central spot

Food and Drink Options

The on-site One Twenty One Two Restaurant is a hidden gem for pre- or post-concert meals, offering fine wine and seasonal British cuisine. There’s also an outdoor terrace perfect for relaxing with a drink. While there’s no 24/7 room service noted, the central location puts you within walking distance of Covent Garden eateries. Breakfast is available—essential after a late night out.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself is more about quiet luxury than live entertainment, you're steps from London’s buzzing nightlife. Walk to nearby bars, lounges, and late-night spots scattered around Theatreland and the South Bank. If you're after a quieter evening, the hotel bar serves up a refined nightcap with riverside charm.

What People Say

Guests rave about the hotel’s stunning location, noting it’s ideal for accessing London’s cultural and music hotspots. The views of the London Eye and the Thames are consistent highlights. Many appreciate the elegant décor, spacious rooms, and friendly staff. The Wi-Fi, Elemis toiletries, and complimentary mineral water are welcomed touches.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention the hotel’s classic style may feel a bit formal or traditional for younger travelers. A few noted that room soundproofing could be improved, so light sleepers may want to request a quieter room.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers wanting a blend of historic charm, central convenience, and peaceful comfort, The Royal Horseguards is a standout choice in the heart of London.

Great location, but I was...

Liked: Breakfast buffet was decent. Room size was pretty good. I loved the terrace tables and the food was good. Staff was very courteous.
Disliked: The carpet in the room had stains. The windows did not close completely so outside noise was a problem. The lower half of the window was frosted so you couldn't see out. And finally the beds were very uncomfortable. They were hard and you could feel the springs.

Good

Liked: The location is convenient, safe neighborhood, and 3-min walk from metro station. The staff were kind and helpful. The hotel is super quiet which is a game changer for me. As most London hotels, the rooms and furniture are kind of old but clean.Ameneties available in the room:Towels, bath robe, slippers, iron, laundry bag, toilete paper, tissue box, shower cap, soap bar, hand lotion, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. Bottomline, I will probably come back again.
Disliked: The room I got had no sunlight at all. I couldn't tell when it's daytime or nighttime. Cleanliness was fair but not perfect, unfortunately someone seemed to forget emptying the bathroom trash bag when I checked into my room. I didn't try their food to be fair.Ameneties not available in the room:Dental kit, snacks, herbal tea and infusions, sewing kit

Delightful

Liked: We loved the breakfast, especially the fact of it being a buffet style. The comfort of the chairs in the hotel lobby and surrounding areas. The lifts worked very well and there was not waiting around for one to arrive!!! The terrace restaurant was absolutely gorgeous, we loved sitting outside and the food was gorgeous.
Disliked: We loved the comfort the beds, however the fact that they were on casters was a little disconcerting as when we sat down the beds were on the move!!! The only thing missing was a packet with a nail file in it................
