Not the once-upon-a-time Royal Hawaiian

Liked: The decore and style of the older building rooms and open areas. We got married at your hotel in 1990 and specifically chose it to restate our wedding vows on June 2, 2025, so it was nice to reminisce the memories of a hotel that physically, has preserved its style.
Disliked: The front desk staff could have been much better, with a couple of exceptions, where the gal that checked us out was very friendly and one other gal was also helpful with informaiton. We asked for simple things like where we would find the concierge or could we get someone to take our picture (just a simple photograph), where we had dressed up in our close-to-original wedding attire, but the people working the front desk at that time were anything but helpful. This was around 8 AM on June 2.Also, there aren't enough places to just sit and enjoy the ambiance in the lobby and breezeways The few seats were frequently occupied and when we did get a chance, it was a rocking chair that faced pulled down shades at the big arches. Other lobby seating is very worn and unclean. The Royal Hawaiian is certainly NOT a 5-star resort any longer. The service and treatment was far from what it was 35 years ago. Frankly, I'm not surprised as Marriot's takeover represents a lower class of service, especially when considering that the much larger Sheraton right next store, which is certainly not a 5-star hotel and has many underdressed guests overflowing into the hotel and shared pool. The bar cocktails quality was also very poor as was the service. The bartender didn't inow how to properly make an Espresso Martini or an Old Fashioned (worst I ever had). It was also far more crowded and impossible to find a decent poolside seat. Frequently, seats had unused towels on them and sat that way for several hours.
