It’s rare that I write...

Liked: The location is good if you are looking for central Perth. Also, the staff are kind and helpful.
Disliked: The hotel needs more than cosmetic work- it is dated and very expensive considering. The mattresses on the beds are old (you can feel the springs) and there is major problem with overheated rooms. I had to change rooms in the middle of the night as the towel heater cannot be turned down/off in any of the rooms. I was told to open the window and given a small electric fan to use, which was also broken. This made for a very uncomfortable, short night. When I mentioned this at checkout there was no gesture or effort on behalf of the staff nor the manager who was nowhere to be seen.

The breakfast that was included...

Liked: The staff were so friendly and helpful. Diane at the front desk went above and beyond to make our stay memorable for the whole family. Helen was such a ray of sunshine every morning at the breakfast buffet that was included. The location is fabulous with a view of the River Taye! The bathtub in our room was huge and so great for the kids. The decor and history of the hotel is exceptional. You feel like you’re in a story book from the 1700s (in a good way)!
Disliked: Parking was a bit of a struggle. They had about 10 spots out back and those were taken some days, so we had to park on the street a couple times and pay. Good thing is that parking on the street was free from 6pm-8am. Our bed was not very comfy, but it was really big!

Faded grandeur

Liked: Great location and a beautiful historic building. Breakfast was very nice and the servers were really friendly.
Disliked: Our bedroom was very tired and needs refurbishment. It felt a little grubby with bird poo all over the window. There was a faint smell of old cigarettes from the bed. We weren’t welcomed on arrival and overall was poor value for money and probably wouldn’t stay again. Such a shame as the public areas of the hotel were lovely.

Good

Liked: The location was fantastic and the food was good. The staff were very helpful.
Disliked: It’s a little dated and there are no lifts. We were on the second floor.
