Hotel Description
Built in the 1700s the Rowan Tree Country Hotel now offers elegant rooms many with views of the mountains Cairngorm National Park or Loch Alvie. Traditional Scottish breakfasts are available. The hotel has a lounge and bar both with log fires in winter. The bar has a selection of local gins and whiskeys. The restaurant serves Scottish dishes many using local ingredients and offers cooked breakfasts including porridge with whiskey. Meals need to be booked prior to arrival to avoid disappointment. The hotel has been expanded and modernized but retains many original features including open fires stained-glass leaded windows and beamed ceilings. All rooms have TVs WiFi Egyptian cotton sheets and private bathrooms. In the Cairngorm National Park The Rowan Tree is set in beautiful countryside well-known for golfing fishing hiking and riding. The hotel is 40 minutes' drive from Inverness in the heart of the Scottish Highlands.

A lovely little hideaway and...

Liked: Friendly staff, great food, accepted dogs, thoughtful team, parking, clean, comfy, vegan friendly options, value for money.

Perfect overnight stop (even if...

Liked: We were lucky to find this lovely hotel for an unplanned overnight stay when we were stuck on our return journey from Orkney due to storms and road closures. Lovely staff, great food and very pleasant and uncomplicated service as well as comfortable room . Also lovely setting between Kingussie and aviemore. Would be great base for walking/ climbing in the Cairngorms for sure .

Liked: Good food at dinner including wild mushrooms. Breakfast was fine.
Disliked: There was some confusion over the bill as some items had been charged twice but we finally sorted it out.

Next time I come to...

Liked: Great location. Old world feeling but not old fashioned. Really great and attentive staff. Particularly impressed with the young man who took breakfast orders. He was so attentive to everyone in the room.
Disliked: Everything was great, nothing to complain about
