After the show, return to a peaceful, garden-surrounded retreat that’s miles away from the noise. Guests rave about the hotel’s stunning architecture, spacious rooms, and peaceful setting. Reviewers appreciate the friendly staff, the mix of historic charm and modern amenities, and the hotel’s easy access to Buffalo nightlife and concert venues. The free WiFi and fitness center are nice bonuses for those staying longer.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the grounds can feel a bit large and maze-like, especially at night. A few reviewers noted that signage could be clearer when navigating the property. But overall, most agree that the charm and quality outweigh these minor quirks.

The Bottom Line

Historic and amazing

Liked: The property itself is quite stunning. It literally looks like it came straight out of a movie and every little detail has been polished to perfection. It feels almost unworldly to walk up to the building and up the stairs and down the hallways. In every sense you can feel the history of the place and be blown away by the colossally high ceilings and amazing light fixtures and woodwork. We had a very lovely stay there and everything was quiet and peaceful. The breakfast was a nice touch, and although very basic, I did not expect it at a hotel of this caliber so that was nice. Usually the nicer the hotel, the less that is provided for free so any breakfast was a surprising extra. Location of the hotel is quite convenient to Buffalo and many great restaurants and the Navy Park, which was really fun to walk around.
Disliked: WiFi was pretty poky (8-10 Mb/S) but usable.

As my family was traumatized...

Liked: Renovations were tastefully done and the building historical.
Disliked: The building was formerly an Insane Assylum and in the basement there was a museum on its former Insane Assylum history to this effect. The hotel website never highlighted this nor did the Booking.com. This is material information. My wife and child were traumatized by the history and we left the property and did not stay here as my wife said she would not be able to sleep. The front desk assured me that I would not be charged and that someone would call me and booking.com to refund me the charges. I have never from the hotel since.

We loved our stay

Liked: It was very interesting to stay at such a historical place and to learn and read about it.
Disliked: Love how it looked like we were staying in a castle and the inside was so neat

Superb

Liked: The hotel is great, nice rooms, comfortable beds, very clean. The ventilation system in the corridor is very loud, and can be heard from the rooms; a bit disappointing considering the price.
Disliked: The ventilation system in the corridors is very loud, can be heard from inside the rooms.Should provide a toilet brush to keep the WC clean...I don't understand why these fancy hotels think that toilet brushes are not needed

I will NEVER use booking.com...

Disliked: They charged me for the stay even though I paid for it through booking.com. I spent over two hours over 2 days dealing with AI bots and full voicemail boxes and never got a live person to talk to. The single most frustrating experience ever.

I understand an early check-in...

Liked: Hotel was beautiful
Disliked: Tried to request an early check-in and was denied at booking. Was told to contact them the night before and could not get through by phone for days. When we arrived (decided to head there early from Niagara Falls Canada in case they were no longer in business) we were told that the phones had been down for days. They could not accommodate our early check-in due to a wedding. We were basically dismissed due to the wedding, as if my almost $400 for the night meant nothing. If the staff knew about the phones being out of service for days, I feel they should have contacted the guests that had upcoming reservations to let them know.
