Liked: I love the Rex. Bob and the staff are brilliant and friendly, the location is outstanding, and the breakfast is great. The rooms aren?t 5* hotel rooms but they are clean, comfortable and equipped with good WiFi and television. Excellent value.
Disliked: I enjoy the sounds of Jazz and Blues from the live bands coming through into my room but it may not be for everyone. Don?t go expecting a quiet retreat!

Liked: Location was great. Very close to subway and busses, lots of places to eat nearby and great music.
Disliked: The room was really noisy both with noise coming from the street and from a heating unit in the room. Shower wasn't clean and one of the shutters on the window didn't work.

Liked: The stuff was very friendly and helpful, the music was good and the hotel placement is very good. Lots of small different eateries around.
Disliked: We had an older room: the window was drafty, the battery, when working at night, was making a lot of noise spitting and whistling. The shower curtain on the 2 floor needs to be replaced.

Great location, great price, great...
Liked: I loved this location!
1. The staff (manager included) were very helpful and friendly. Never did I feel out of place or unwelcome.
2. The free breakfast is very simple (tea, coffee, toast) but precisely what you need to start the day if you're on a budget or not a big breakfast eater. The paid breakfast is basic and good, precisely what you need to start the day if you have a few available dollars or are a breakfast eater. The BEST thing about the paid breakfast: since I did not take meat, my meal cost 1$ less. This may seem like nothing but being a vegetarian, I am used to paying the same price for a breakfast but without the meat.
3. I was able to hear music from my room. It was like falling asleep to the faint sound of jazz. Very relaxing, actually.
Disliked: A small complaint is that the noise from Queen street could be heard from my room. It didn't stop me from sleeping, probably because I was able to hear some of the jazz from the bar, but it was still a little annoying. Another small complaint is that the bed isn't the most comfortable. But for the money and location, this is not a problem. Also, the shower in the private room can have a tight entry if you're a very big person - just a warning!

A very welcoming hotel, I...
Liked: I really enjoyed the afternoon/evening performances, every night I looked forward to listening to live music. The food was delicious too and the waiters/waitresses were very friendly and welcoming.

Liked: Excellent for the price; central to downtown; clean; decent bed; welcoming staff; old school charm.
Disliked: This is a renowned LIVE MUSIC venue and though the band ended their final set at midnight, with our room over the bar, we spent a couple of hours feeling like we were in the audience. It is a great old building but could really do with an update in the art and bedding. The hot water was HOT - when it finally arrived in the shower though I could not get hot at the sink.

Excellent location with helpful staff
Liked: Hotel is in a great location for visiting Toronto--a streetcar stop outside, a subway stop just a couple blocks away, and many attractions & restaurants in walking distance. Staff here is excellent. We had a problem with our key card and also there was a brief room mix up and they fixed things immediately.
Disliked: It wasn't an issue for us, but some might find the rooms too small. Also, please be aware this is also a bar with live music. If you need quiet, then don't stay here! I personally loved hearing the music drifting in from downstairs.
