The Spotlight on The Regency Hotel

Classic Comfort with a Modern Twist in Solihull

Nestled in the heart of England, The Regency Hotel blends traditional charm with modern amenities. Once an exclusive gentleman’s club, this welcoming hotel offers guests a friendly atmosphere, well-equipped leisure facilities, and a convenient location just off J4 of the M42. You’ll be close to Warwick, Stratford-upon-Avon, and key concert venues like the NEC—making it a solid base for music lovers.

Why Concert-goers love it

This hotel is a smart pick for fans attending gigs at the NEC or events in nearby cities like Birmingham and Warwick. It’s just a short drive from major venues, yet far enough for a quiet night’s sleep. With a 3:00 PM check-in and 11:00 AM check-out, there’s enough flexibility to settle in before the show and enjoy a slow morning after. The easy access to the M42 means late-night taxis and rideshares are hassle-free.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends looking for a relaxed spot to crash after a big night
- Solo travelers heading to their dream gig
- Couples planning a music-filled weekend getaway
- Fans needing a peaceful place to recharge after the encore
- Budget-conscious travelers who want value near the action

Food and Drink Options

The hotel has a restaurant and bar on-site, ideal for a pre-show dinner or nightcap. While 24/7 room service isn’t available, the dining hours are generous, and you’ll find plenty of walkable eateries in Shirley for late-night bites. Breakfast is available—perfect for those slower mornings after a big concert.

Nightlife Options

While the scene at the hotel is more chill than party-ready, you’re a short drive away from pubs, lounges, and live music spots in Solihull and Birmingham. The hotel bar offers a cozy spot to compare setlists and unwind with a local ale or two.

What People Say

Guests regularly mention the friendly staff, clean rooms, and relaxing amenities like the indoor pool and gym. Many love the quiet location and say it’s a great value for the price, especially given the proximity to event venues and major roads.

Areas for Improvement

While the location is quiet, it’s not right in the heart of a city, so you may need a car or ride service for nightlife or concert travel. Some guests mention the decor feels a bit dated—but that’s often outweighed by the comfort and service.

The Bottom Line

A peaceful, well-positioned hotel with leisure perks and easy venue access—The Regency Hotel is a solid pick for concert-goers who want comfort without the chaos.

Some aspects were great, the...

Liked: The bed in mine and my sons room was incredibly comfy, the beds in my parents’ room not so much. We weren’t entirely disappointed in our stay at The Regency. Emily in the restaurant was absolutely fantastic with my son specifically, but she was truly lovely to all of us, nothing was too much of an ask for her. The food was tasty, hot, good portion sizes. We were very satisfied with that aspect. Unfortunately the rest of the visit was not what we’d expect from a 3 star hotel.
Disliked: Our rooms weren’t ready despite the hotel agreeing to an early check in of 12pm. Jack moved my room to one of the newly refurbed rooms. My parents’ room (which was booked and confirmed to be a disabled access room) wasn’t ready so the 4 of us had to go to my room. 2.45pm on our way out to the funeral, Jack told us where the disabled access room was. He said it was inaccessible the normal way because the corridor was full of workmen. We were told mom would have to go up to the first floor, down a few stairs, past my room (155), back down a flight of stairs to the ground floor to access that room. My dad told Jack that the room wasn’t going to be accessible due to mom being unable to walk that far and not being able to use the stairs. So he moved their room to 109. It was an ok room in terms of accessing it, but she wasn’t able to shower due there being a shower over the bath. Also, because there was nothing to help her up and down from the toilet, she had to try and use the bath and the wall to lift herself which caused additional significant pain in her shoulders, back and hips. She ended up calling my dad to help her every time she used the toilet. Jack also told us that the corridor to my room was due to be finished by the workmen by 6pm on the Wednesday night we arrived. Nothing had changed when I checked out around 10 on Friday morning. Wires were still hanging from the ceiling, most of the ceiling tiles were still missing. It looked like holes in the wall had been filled but not painted over. There was bare plaster showing on one of the walls. I understand the renovations/refurbishment was still ongoing, but if it’s not complete in a certain area, why is that area open to guests? It doesn’t look good. The shower hose leaked when my son used the shower (we let reception know), the window safety wire had been cut in our bedroom. The TV wouldn’t connect to the Wifi so we tried casting from my laptop to the TV and that wouldn't work either.

If refurbished to the same...

Liked: The bar downstairs in the hotel was excellent, decor, ambiance, service and quality of food. The lounge area was very comfortable and perfect for relaxing or to catch up with work.
Disliked: We were put in rooms which clearly needed refurbishment. We booked 2 rooms for 3 nights, and we were placed on a floor that even the hotel manager had thought was offline (based on his comments to us on the last night, when he was going into each room on our floor). It felt as though we were being punished for using booking.com by being given rooms in a state of disrepair. We were told no other rooms were available, even though rooms were still being shown as available on booking.com. There were stains on the carpet in the rooms, and water stains on the ceiling in the corridor on our floor. The mattresses were uncomfortable, as we could feel the springs. The light over the bathroom mirror did not work.Even though we tried to address it multiple times over our 3 day stay, we never received a TV remote that worked with our TV. The toilet roll holder was broken in both rooms, and when we asked for a second towel for our room with 2 people, we were told that usually the rooms are given to corporate guests who only need one towel.I am sure the hotel will be great once refurbished, but they probably should have removed their availability from booking.com if they only had the unrefurbished rooms available.

Not the best

Disliked: The window blind was broken and tucked over the top. We had to manually roll it up and down. The shower tray was blocked and overflowing whilst having a shower. There were decorators decorating the corridor outside our room in the morning
