The Spotlight on The Red Lion Inn by Greene King Inns

Cozy Countryside Charm Just Outside Sheffield

The Red Lion Inn by Greene King Inns blends rustic charm with modern comfort in a 19th-century converted farmhouse. Located just off Junction 31 of the M1, this traditional British inn offers a peaceful stay within a short drive of Sheffield's top music venues. Expect warm hospitality, bright and elegant rooms, and crackling log fires in a cozy countryside setting.

Why Concert-goers love it

Being just 20 minutes from Sheffield by car, The Red Lion Inn makes it easy to reach your gig without staying in the city bustle. After the show, return to a quieter retreat where you can wind down with a drink by the fire. Free parking is a bonus for those driving in, and the relaxed check-in time from 14:00 gives you flexibility before a show. It’s a peaceful place to sleep off the adrenaline the next morning, with check-out at 11:00.

Who this Hotel is great for

Groups of friends looking for a cost-effective base near Sheffield
Solo travelers on a music pilgrimage
Couples planning a weekend escape with a concert highlight
Fans who want a low-key, countryside spot to relax after the show
Budget-conscious music lovers wanting value and character

Food and Drink Options

The on-site restaurant features traditional British cuisine, lighter bites, and a cozy bar serving real ales, specialty coffees, and a curated wine list. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the food is hearty and satisfying—perfect for pre- or post-show dining. Breakfast is served in the morning, ideal for late risers after a gig night.

Nightlife Options

While not in the heart of the nightlife scene, the inn’s bar has a welcoming, pub-style vibe that’s perfect for a nightcap. For those craving more action, Sheffield’s bars and clubs are just a short drive away, making this a great base for both chill and thrill.

What People Say

Guests love the warm atmosphere and charming historic details like oak beams and log fires. Reviews consistently highlight the friendly staff, clean rooms, and the convenience of being near the M1. Many note that it's a relaxing place to come back to after a busy night out.

Areas for Improvement

While full of character, some rooms could use a little updating. Being outside the city center means a taxi or drive is required to reach concerts, and there’s no public transport late at night. But for those with a car, it’s a smooth and easy option.

The Bottom Line

A welcoming countryside inn with modern comforts and easy access to Sheffield’s live music scene—ideal for concert-goers who want a peaceful retreat after the show.

Overnight stay.

Liked: The location was perfect for our needs near to Rother Valley Country Park( only a 7 minute drive). The staff were very helpful and the lady on reception was chatty and very pleasant. The rooms were very comfortable, lovely shower, nice beds and tea and coffee facilities always welcome( especially as we needed to be at an event at 06.45 so having a drink in the morning was a highlight). The pub adjoining was very convenient and we had a nice meal. The pub was busy and had a good atmosphere.
Disliked: Nothing. It catered for our needs for one night.

Liked: Lovely room and comfortable. Nice pub
Disliked: The food is awful. We had dinner which isn’t cheap but very basic with cheap ingredients used. The chips were frozen oven chips the steak fatty and tough. The burger bland with a scraping of ingredients. The breakfast was worse than something you would get in a very cheap cafe and not cooked through. The bacon was grey. Sausage was cheap rubbish. Food was horrible

Friendly, comfortable and clean

Liked: We stayed here and had a family celebration. All staff were lovely and helpful. I’ve reviewed lots of times for the rooms, which are always comfy and clean.
Disliked: It was very warm in the room and just a little window to open at the top. I did learn next morning that we could have asked for an electric fan.
