The Spotlight on The Red Lion Hotel

Historic Comfort Steps from Spalding Station

Modern convenience meets classic charm at The Red Lion Hotel, a beautifully refurbished 18th-century, family-run property located in the very heart of Spalding. With just 17 en-suite rooms, this hotel offers an intimate and welcoming stay, complete with flat-screen TVs, free WiFi, and tea and coffee facilities. Its prime town centre location puts you just a 5-minute walk from Spalding Rail Station, making it a breeze to get to and from nearby concerts or events in the area.

Why Concert-goers love it

If you're catching a show in Spalding or nearby Peterborough, this hotel is a solid pick. The central location means you're close to pubs, restaurants, and transport links—perfect for a post-show wind-down or an early morning check-out. The five-minute stroll to the train station makes post-concert travel easy, especially for those heading out the next day. While the building is historic, it’s pleasantly quiet and cozy—ideal if you’re after a peaceful night’s sleep after the encore.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends looking for a convenient and budget-friendly base
- Solo travelers ticking off a must-see artist
- Couples enjoying a weekend escape with some live music
- Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space
- Budget-conscious music fans who want charm without splashing out

Food and Drink Options

While there’s no 24-hour room service, you’ll find several pubs and takeaways all within walking distance for a late-night bite. The hotel does offer a hearty breakfast—perfect for recharging after a late night. Tea and coffee in every room means you can caffeinate at your own pace. For more substantial meals, local eateries are a short walk away.

Nightlife Options

You won’t find a club scene here, but you will find cozy pubs and relaxed bars nearby for a pre-show pint or a nightcap. Spalding has a low-key but welcoming nightlife vibe, ideal for those not looking to party until dawn. For something livelier, Peterborough’s venues and bars are within reach by car or train.

What People Say

Guests love the central location and historic character of the building. Many mention the friendly staff and the overall value for money. The rooms are often praised for being clean and comfortable, and the free WiFi is a hit for those streaming playlists or uploading concert snaps.

Areas for Improvement

Rooms can run on the smaller side, especially in a period property like this. There’s no on-site restaurant or bar, so you’ll have to explore the town for meals and drinks—but luckily, everything's close by. Also, the 10:00 AM check-out might feel a bit early after a late night, so plan accordingly.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers seeking a central, character-filled stay in Spalding with easy rail access, The Red Lion Hotel delivers comfort, charm, and convenience all in one.

Great Place to Stay

Liked: Great central location and very large well presented, clean room ( Welland Suite ) for the price.
Disliked: All good ,it can be a little noisy first thing in the morning as the market sets up but it didn't bother me as I had an early start.

Apart from the breakfast it...

Liked: Pleasant, help full staff. Excellent evening meal and great service, good choice of drinks at the bar.
Disliked: Breakfast wasn't great, bit of a diy affair, only one member of staff to serve 14 people at once, bit of a let down after a excellent evening meal.

Pub is fab. Room not...

Liked: We were allocated room 22. On the second floor (think attic), facing the sun, in a heatwave. The mattress was cheap and uncomfortable and the room was stifling hot. There were two fans which we used all night but this did not cool the room down at all. The window was a sash safety window so couldn’t be opened any further than a couple of inches. We were then woken by staff at 7.45am who had come to clean the room! We were only staying for one night and checkout was at 10am. When we went to checkout at 9am there was nobody to be found and another gentleman also waiting. We left our keycard on the desk.On a brighter note, the pub was lovely, staff were friendly and it was a fantastic atmosphere. We wouldn’t stay the night again, but we would visit the pub if in the area.
Disliked: The mattress needs replacing and the blind needs closing in advance of guests arriving when the sun is as hot as this weekend. It was impossible to cool it down.
