The Spotlight on The Queen Mary

Sleep Like a Star on the Legendary Queen Mary

Modern hotels are great—but how often do you get to stay aboard a retired 1930s ocean liner? The Queen Mary, permanently docked in Long Beach, offers a once-in-a-lifetime stay filled with vintage glamour and historic charm. Think rich wood paneling, original Art Deco fixtures, and a seriously cool maritime vibe. You’re not just booking a room—you’re boarding a legend.

The ship has been transformed into a unique hotel, complete with 346 original first-class staterooms and 9 elegant suites. Between the spacious sun deck, historic tours, and on-board dining at Chelsea Chowder House & Bar, there’s plenty to explore without ever stepping ashore.

Why Concert-goers love it

Just a short drive or ride-share from downtown Long Beach’s top music venues, the Queen Mary makes a memorable base for any live show. While it’s lively with tours and events during the day, at night it offers a surprisingly peaceful place to unwind after the encore. The vintage ship layout means rooms are more private than your usual hotel, and with a check-in time of 4:00 PM and check-out at 11:00 AM, there’s time to sleep in a little after a late night.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a fun, Instagram-worthy place to crash
  • Solo travelers wanting a stay that’s as unforgettable as the show
  • Couples turning a concert into a romantic vintage getaway
  • Fans who want a quiet space to recover post-show
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who enjoy unique value-packed stays

Food and Drink Options

Onboard dining is a highlight, with the Chelsea Chowder House & Bar serving up fresh seafood and hearty comfort food—perfect post-show fuel. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the ship’s restaurants stay open late enough for most concert returns. Plus, you're just a short drive or ride-share away from downtown Long Beach’s late-night eats. Breakfast is available on board, so you can grab a bite without leaving the ship.

Nightlife Options

While the Queen Mary itself doesn’t host live music every night, there are frequent paranormal tours, themed events, and historic evenings that keep the vibe festive. For more classic nightlife, head to the nearby downtown Long Beach area with its bustling bars, lounges, and music venues. Prefer a chill nightcap? Grab a drink at the ship’s classy onboard bar and soak in the ocean views.

What People Say

Guests rave about the authentic vintage atmosphere, calling it a true step back in time. Many highlight the ship’s unique design, great photo ops, and surprisingly spacious rooms. Reviewers also love the historical tours and on-deck views of the harbor. It’s not your average hotel stay—and that’s exactly the charm.

Areas for Improvement

This isn’t your typical modern hotel, so expect a few quirks. Some reviewers note the ship can be a bit creaky or drafty in spots, and Wi-Fi isn’t always the fastest. Also, it’s a ship—so don't expect elevators on every deck. But for most, these details just add to the character.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking to pair your concert night with an unforgettable, vintage stay, the Queen Mary delivers charm, comfort, and a story to tell.

Enjoyable, unique part of history.

Liked: Unique and historic place to eat and stay. Enjoyed seeing all the pictures and artifacts from the Queen Mary when it was in service as a cruise ship. Room was very comfortable.
Disliked: The bar was extremely hot. We didn't want to stay to enjoy our drink and conversation.

We have stayed here several...

Disliked: the occupants in the room next to ours were having a fight about something and we could hear them til around 1 or 2 AM. Also didn't like that there was no outlets next to the bed to plug in the phone to charge.

It was absolutely perfect overall.

Liked: It was absolutely perfect overall. The room was HUGE, the view was great, and the tours were fantastic (we did the Glory something and Graveyard with just incredible tour guides [shoutout to Scott--gosh I hope I'm remembering his name correctly & Gil]). We didn't have breakfast there, but dinner options were far above our expectations. The Observation Bar was our favorite part, with excellent drinks! Oh, and dressing up for the Alex Mendham & seeing people dance, and also dressed up... wow, it was a perfect getaway weekend. It's been a month since we went, and we can't stop talking about it. Can't wait to go back :) Oh, we thought the room was going to be too hot bc it was too hot bc no AC, but it was actually great. Thanks! (and thanks for the better rate on booking.com!)
Disliked: The rooms were a bit pricey, but I guess it is what it is in July of 2025, haha. We look forward to returning on "off" season (we live in Southern California (Ventura County), so we should take advantage of our proximity!). Also, it would have been nice to know that there'd be a Warped Tour going on across the water, which we could hear too well.
