Good

Liked: Room.was ideal, comfortable room, lovely bed - I slept like a baby. Lovely location, plenty of parking, restaurant staff friendly and helpful and food was good.
Disliked: Receiving a slightly frosty phone call when I got home after trip asking where I'd left keys and query about breakfast, all of which in order from my side. Just could have been done in a softer way after I've spent ££ on a weekend break.

Very disappointing

Liked: The view of the Trent is very nice and there is a good place to sit riverside and have a drink . Some nice staff , if in the case of younger ones quite inexperienced in hospitality , and all who looked like they were struggling to make things work. Parking .
Disliked: We upgraded to a 'better room' in the main hotel after reading some poor reviews of the cottages. The room, in fact the whole hotel, was shabby. Peeling wallpaper in the room, dirty window frames , stains on the net curtain, hamfisted repairs in the bathroom, chipped, scratched and aged furniture . Narrow beds, hairs on the sheet, cheap linen and towels. Some kind of metal bar was left sticking out low down from the frame. why? No surprise I stabbed a toe on it in the dark. When we returned at the second evening a large spider was dangling up and down above one bedhead underneath the low ceiling where it had captured a quantity of flies in its web. And that was after someone from housekeeping had visited during the day. Food in the restaurant was also disappointing. . Basic menu and cheap wines. Fish and chips came with watery mushy peas, poorly cooked chips that had an aftertaste, that often suggest cooking oil was old or overused. The curry was described by a diner as like re heated soup. In short we will not be staying there again , shame when just a small amount of effort and little expenditure could have made such difference. The owners clearly don't have much love for the place which has so much potential but is overly flattered by its photos.
