Disappointed

Liked: Centre of Sedgefield.
Disliked: Had the largest room, plaster coming off the wall in chunks. Wouldn’t say it’s 4* in my experience, attention to detail lacking. For instance I wouldn’t expect the breakfast orange juice to be squash. It’s a little thing I suppose but little things add up.

Could have been excellent but...

Liked: Staff were welcoming. Nice bar. Breakfast excellent. Rooms clean and pleasant. Good location. Liked the hotel in many ways which is why it is frustrating that they failed to sort wifi or TV.
Disliked: TV broken and WiFi not working- we stayed at the hotel for 4 nights, the TV wasn’t working before we arrived which hotel knew but failed to tell us or fix it during our stay. WiFI in room also didn’t work until our last day. No manager on site to resolve issues. We put in complaint to the hotel who handled the conversation well and said would raise with the manager but then we heard nothing further. Other points:Restaurant was closed the night we arrived which hotel didn’t list on their information. Bathroom tiny.

Disappointing experience

Liked: Breakfast was good. The pub area is very traditional and weekend staff friendly.
Disliked: The room was disappointing. Plaster is coming off the wall under the window. It was painted very dark green and the lighting was very dim. It was impossible to read using the bedside light. The bed was comfortable, but as it was so hot we took the duvet off and just used the cover.A fan was provided. The television did not work, the signal kept dropping out.The WiFi also did not work. The bathroom is dark green too and there is poor lighting so its difficult to apply makeup etc. There is limited shelving under the sink and no hooks so difficult to hang clothes etc. Most disappointing was the shower was stuck on hot...hot ...hot! We asked for it to be repaired, and thought it had been as a member of the breakfast staff claimed to have fixed it. However we discovered that evening that it was just the same. A very helpful staff member said he would contact someone immediately, and we asked to use the shower in another room next door. But apparently this wasn't possible as , although it was a room used by staff, it had not been cleaned. We did not use the shower successfully during the entire stay.We were visiting friends so managed, but this did not make the stay any more comfortable, considering this is quite expensive accommodation, and we had expected a bit of a treat.Unfortunately, due to family illness (granddaughter admitted to hospital), we had to leave a day early. We informed the lady who was working in the bar the day before that we might need to leave early. but she did not tell us we would not be able to receive a refund as we left a day early as the payment comes with no refund.Although we had to leave early, we felt that we would not have chosen to stay anyway as it was impossible to use the shower facility and nothing was being done to right this.On enquiring after our return, we were given no apology for the faulty shower and curtly informed we were not entitled to a refund.
