It felt the whole experience...
Liked: The setting is lovely and the location is good. The view from the restaurant is nice. Quite a few famous people have stayed there.
Disliked: Check-in was chaotic. Initially there was only one member of staff for what felt like 10 minutes and then 3 staff members all arrived at once. I had to question the amount charged to my card, which was embarrassing as there were other people in the queue. It was explained to me the addition £100 was for extras or damage. The money was also taken from my bank account straight away and not held. Although I could afford it I had not planned on spending that money at the Petersham. The room was much smaller than expected and we did not have a view at all. The carpet was dirty and wardrobe was not big enough to hold the clothes we came with (2 suits, 4 shirts and 2 jackets). The bathroom was clean but the blind was dirty and torn. The shower tap was broken and the drains made a gurgling noise whenever the toilet was flushed. The door to the room would bang shut. This unfortunately was the same for all the other room doors and we were woken up by the coming and goings of other guests. Our room was situated next to the cleaning closest which was also irritating in the morning when housekeeping arrived to work because we could hear them unlocking the door and having conversations outside our room as they were getting ready for work. The only staff member I can praise was the person who tended the bar in the evening. Other staff members did not engage, not even to return a smile. We were disappointed to find the kitchen closed at 10pm and there were no snacks available to have with our nightcap. Breakfast was ok but being vegetarian we had to opt for the vegan breakfast. I would have like some eggs, which were not available with the vegan option. The service at breakfast was not becoming of the beautiful room it was held in. Plates were removed before everyone seated had finished eating and no-one checked in to see if we were happy or if there was anything more they could do. It took us a while to catch the eye of a staff member to ask for some sauce.

Passable
Liked: Location was lovely. I knew beforehand roughly where it was but it exceeded my expectations. As a location for a relaxing weekend near Richmond park, Kew Gardens and Hampton Court this is ideal.
Disliked: WiFi was unreliable. Mostly unable to connect.I only went in to the bar/restaurant once and after 15 minutes of getting no service gave up.

Very good
Liked: Great location straight onto the river and into Richmond. Good for visiting Kew Gardens by taxi or bus. Also Richmond Park is just a stones throw away, along with Petersham nurseries.
Disliked: Mattress was much much harder than a previous stay, which made sleeping very uncomfortable even though I like a firm bed. Shame, as sleeping is the main activity in a hotel, otherwise everything else was fine.
