The Spotlight on The Parliament House Hotel

Charming Stay Near Edinburgh’s Music Scene

The Parliament House Hotel is a beautifully restored 3-star property tucked along a quiet cobbled lane at the foot of Calton Hill, right in the heart of Edinburgh. Just a short stroll from Princes Street and only 984 feet from Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station, this hotel blends classic Scottish charm with modern comforts. With free Wi-Fi, private bathrooms, and a cozy atmosphere, it’s a peaceful retreat just minutes from the city’s top concert venues.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location is everything, and this hotel delivers. Being just a 5-minute walk from Waverley Station makes late-night returns after a gig a breeze—especially if you're catching a train in or out of town. Despite its central location, the hotel offers a quiet, restful atmosphere, ideal after a high-energy show. With check-in from 14:00 and check-out at 11:00, there’s enough flexibility to enjoy a slow morning after a late night.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a central base close to venues and nightlife
  • Solo travelers catching a bucket-list show at nearby venues
  • Couples wanting a romantic weekend with live music and city views
  • Fans needing a quiet space to recover post-concert
  • Budget-conscious music lovers seeking comfort without the splurge

Food and Drink Options

The hotel’s charming MP's Bistro serves a hearty cooked Scottish breakfast—perfect after a late night out. While dinner isn’t served in-house, you’re within easy walking distance of countless eateries, pubs, and late-night bites on Princes Street. There’s also a lounge bar with comfy armchairs and an open fire, ideal for a relaxing pre- or post-concert drink.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself is a quiet retreat, you’re just a short walk from Edinburgh’s buzzing nightlife. Whether you’re after live music, cozy whisky bars, or lively clubs, it’s all nearby. Start your night in the lounge bar, then head out to explore the city’s vibrant scene.

What People Say

Guests consistently mention the excellent central location, the friendly and helpful staff, and the peaceful atmosphere despite being so close to city life. Many highlight the comfortable beds and charming character of the building, as well as the convenience for trains and buses.

Areas for Improvement

If you're staying between January 8–21, 2024, be aware that the elevator will be out of service for repairs. The hotel does have stairs, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re traveling with a lot of gear. Also, there’s no dinner service at the bistro, so plan to eat out in the evenings.

The Bottom Line

The Parliament House Hotel is a quiet, comfortable, and incredibly convenient base for concert-goers in the heart of Edinburgh.

Superb

Liked: Good central location. Good size room with a huge comfortable bed. Very good breakfast. Well decorated throughout with a traditional, classic theme. Reception staff and the staff at breakfast were all very helpful and professional.
Disliked: Our only real gripe was that the bath towels were rather small. The room could also have benefitted from being stocked with herbal tea. A daily supply of biscuits might also have been nice.

Liked: Friendly staff. Super comfy bed. Good position and quiet at night.
Disliked: No air con. But we understand on an old building you cant. Staff did give us a fan though.

Very good

Liked: Pretty room and elegant bathroom.
Disliked: We were on the last floor - the elevator goes up only 4 flights of stairs and we had another 8 flights up with heavy luggage. The breakfast was average - below the general standing of the hotel.
