Amazing, friendly, historic hotel.
Liked: Fabulous, historic building, fantastic friendly bar, we couldn't have felt more welcomed by Lyn, Simon and John. The food was wonderful, the bed was comfortable, the history practically oozing from the walls. A perfect place for us, we definitely plan to return.
Disliked: Nothing!

Disappointed by the small size...
Liked: Bed was very comfortable and breakfasts were good. The location is very quiet at night. It is also awe-inspiring to stay in a hotel with such a rich history. The meal we had in the restaurant during our stay was superb quality.
Disliked: The layout of the room didn’t work, in our opinion. There is a small en-suite loo and shower room, but with no hand basin. This is provided on the other side of the bedroom, past the bed, which is very inconvenient after using the loo, particularly at night.I was also very surprised at the small size of the room, particularly given its price. We’ve stayed in other equally historic houses, but never in such a small room. There is, for example, only one small comfortable chair for two people. In retrospect, I wish I’d noticed that the ‘King Room with Four Poster bed is the only bedroom, where a size is not mentioned in the details given by Booking.com, so I assume now that they are somewhat bigger, even though the price per night is only a few pounds more. If I had realised, I would have preferred to pay the extra. The description as given in Booking.com is also not accurate. It says that parking is available at the hotel and it is - but only enough for 4 cars. There are many more rooms than 4, plus extra people coming in to use the pub and restaurant. The only time we managed to park in the hotel’s grounds was when we arrived at 3pm on the first day. We were told then that we could park on the road, or if that was not possible, in the village car park, down the road, round the corner and about 200m along. Fortunately for us, we could always find parking somewhere on the road, but not particularly close. The description of the room was also inaccurate. Booking.com claims there is a desk in the room and that the room has a private entrance . Neither are true. If there were, as claimed, a tumble dryer, an alarm clock, a DVD player and CD player, I have no idea where. Having owned a property on Booking.com, I realise that these inaccuracies are not necessarily the error of the owners, but they should be reported to Booking.com and corrected anyway.
