Poor - 1 out of 5

Mrs Purdy, Hertfordshire Mon, 17 September 2012

There was excessive street noise from outside our bedroom which went on until 4.30am. Then a council dust-cart arrived to wake us at 7.45am. The hotel made no effort to move us, listen to us or alleviate our distress in anyway. We had no sleep at all, except for 2 hours between the outside noise abating and the dustcart arriving. The hotel should warn guests beforehand that there is excessive street noise from two pubs outside the room. This hotel wanted our money and cared about nothing else. The reception staff just said sorry, smiled and did nothing.

Liked: Excellent breakfast.
Disliked: Street noise from our room was excessive.

Very very average. Not up...

Liked: Room was a good size, location was good right on seafront. Breakfast was basic "full English"
Disliked: WE were on the fifth floor, with only one working lift. As I smoke, getting downstairs and outside every half hour or so was a nightmare.Hotel was advertised as having parking. Only after non refundable booking was I notified by hotel that parking was first come first served at £28 per night. It was not parking but rather garage storage. I ended up using an adjacent car park at a cost of £40.50 per night. Would never stay at The Old Ship again.

Short notice booked on price...

Liked: Proximity to the conference centre / beach / price. Friendly staff.
Disliked: A bit tired in places , mouldy bathroom shower walls, lift was OOO, cold water in the cramped shower cubicle on my first morning but was fine next morning, noisy pigeons / seagulls on roof above my room on 3rd floor , the view was out over some decrepit and rotting building roof tops with overgrown guttering. Breakfast was pretty basic.

Perfect location, looked tired but...

Liked: A great location. Large room and bathroom.
Disliked: A bit tired but you don’t need immaculate perfection, it did everything it needed and was neat and clean.

Comfortable but not clean

Liked: Comfortable bed
Disliked: Had suspect brown stains on one of our towels along with equally suspect stains on the decoration pillows on the bed.Additionally the shower head kept falling from it's stand.

Passable

Liked: The room itself was quiet
Disliked: Noisy sea front, loose man hole lid in main road kept waking us up. I don’t think the hotel has seen a paintbrush for at least 10 years. Parking very expensive.
