Mrs Purdy, Hertfordshire

There was excessive street noise from outside our bedroom which went on until 4.30am. Then a council dust-cart arrived to wake us at 7.45am. The hotel made no effort to move us, listen to us or alleviate our distress in anyway. We had no sleep at all, except for 2 hours between the outside noise abating and the dustcart arriving. The hotel should warn guests beforehand that there is excessive street noise from two pubs outside the room. This hotel wanted our money and cared about nothing else. The reception staff just said sorry, smiled and did nothing.

Liked: Excellent breakfast.
Disliked: Street noise from our room was excessive.

Would definitely not return as...

Liked: Location excellent. Rooms very clean and cleaner very cheerful and helpful.
Disliked: Good choice for breakfast but cooked breakfast only Luke warm. The hotel in poor state of repair. Lots of work needed. Receptionist Daisy very abrupt and had no idea where buses went or even the nearest stop to hotel. I was told to download the app!!!!!

Characterful hotel in great location

Liked: A hotel with character - don't book if you think it's a modern hotel but embrace it's Victorian design and quality. Excellent location for everything - shops, pubs/restaurants and seafront attractions.
Disliked: Minor items - batteries dead in TV remote, shower head needed tightening. All dealt with swiftly after reporting.Lack if heating controls.

Nice location

Liked: Great location, comfy bed, nice staff.
Disliked: Very tired, needs updating throughout. Bathroom was very tired and worn, as was the furniture in the room. For the price we paid I would have expected the hotel room to be in much better condition.

If you want the heart...

Liked: location was great. All of the staff we encountered were lovely. The reception staff were great.
Disliked: Old, tired and in need of attention. The bar area was leaking water and some facilities out of order. Parking is advertised but very limited. Neil the member of staff at the car park was brilliant, caring and supportive. If he had not helped us the only option open to us would have been public parking at £45 per night. Strongly advise if you are booking read the reviews. The bedroom window was faulty and did not prevent the street noise (until fixed).

Lovely stay

Liked: They upgraded us to a room with a view on the beach, which was lovely. Really enjoyed the old style of the hotel.
Disliked: Ran out of hot water while showering.
