Poor - 1 out of 5

Mrs Purdy, Hertfordshire Mon, 17 September 2012

There was excessive street noise from outside our bedroom which went on until 4.30am. Then a council dust-cart arrived to wake us at 7.45am. The hotel made no effort to move us, listen to us or alleviate our distress in anyway. We had no sleep at all, except for 2 hours between the outside noise abating and the dustcart arriving. The hotel should warn guests beforehand that there is excessive street noise from two pubs outside the room. This hotel wanted our money and cared about nothing else. The reception staff just said sorry, smiled and did nothing.

Liked: Excellent breakfast.
Disliked: Street noise from our room was excessive.

Exceptional

Liked: Good location on the front , also not far from the lanes . Also staff very friendly & everything about Covid was good .Excellent breakfast .
Disliked: Only 2 small lifts especially since only 2 can use it due to Covid .But this is the problem with many old hotels .Not a problem for us .

Disappointing - 2 out of 5

After many stays we sadly...

Liked: Location and Seaview
Disliked: We have been staying at The Old Ship for many years and there has been a slow decline in its cleanliness and customer service. Our double room was very small and basically dirty, bathroom not cleaned the entire week, no toilet brush so we could do it. No topping up of toilet rolls, teabags, staining on ceiling from a previous leak, old sockets that you can't use, musty smell everywhere, old standard lamp with shade that didn't fit. Just a general feel of needing a Good clean. Sadly we won't be returning.

Pleasant - 3 out of 5

As above

Liked: Breakfast was good, location was good,
Disliked: We had horrendous experience parking as we were told there was parking in the hotel but on arrival we told there were restrictions for parking in the hotel because of the Covid pandemic. Then we were told we may get a parking ticket if we stopped on the delivery bank to unload our cases and clothes which meant we had to carry our suitcase and bags and clothes from the car park. But the biggest disappointment was when we were allocated our room on arrival at 15.00 there was a dog bed and bowl of water outside our room and on entering our room there was a very strong odour of a dog or dogs in the bedroom. Of course we informed the checking in office and our room was exchanged for a CLEAN room. So unfortunately because of our negative experiences I think it would be unlikely we would visit the Ship hotel again. It?s a shame because we felt with the positive sides of the property the parking shambles ( incidentally my wife suffers with arthritis and I suffer with Spinal Stenosis both of which we informed your booking in staff )The final straw was the appalling odour emanating from the original room being offered to us was probably the final straw.Kind Regards Ken Edwards
