The Spotlight on The Old Rectory

Charming Country Retreat Just Minutes from Big Gigs

Located in the tranquil village of Coleshill, The Old Rectory offers a peaceful, countryside bed and breakfast experience just 7.3 miles from NEC Birmingham and 10 miles from Ricoh Arena. Set in a historic building surrounded by gardens, it’s a cozy, non-smoking escape perfect for recharging after a big night out.
With free WiFi, private parking, and a calm, homey atmosphere, this B&B is a favorite for travelers looking to pair concert excitement with rural charm.

Why Concert-goers love it

Though nestled in the quiet countryside, The Old Rectory is surprisingly close to major music venues like NEC Birmingham and Ricoh Arena—just a 15–20 minute drive. Its peaceful location means no late-night city noise, and with free parking and proximity to Birmingham Airport (8.7 miles), it’s easy to get in and out, even for late shows. The 3pm check-in gives you time to settle in, and the 11am check-out lets you sleep in after a night of dancing.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends looking for a quiet place to crash after a concert
- Solo travelers wanting calm after a bucket-list show
- Couples turning a gig into a weekend getaway
- Fans needing recovery time in a peaceful setting
- Budget-conscious music lovers who want value and charm

Food and Drink Options

While The Old Rectory doesn’t have an on-site restaurant, Coleshill village offers several walkable pubs and eateries with hearty British fare. Guests appreciate the flexibility to bring back bites and relax in the garden. Breakfast options are available, offering a welcome start after a night out.

Nightlife Options

This B&B is more about winding down than turning up. But if you’re still buzzing post-show, nearby Coleshill and Birmingham offer pubs, clubs, and lounges just a short drive away. It’s the best of both worlds—concert energy followed by countryside calm.

What People Say

Guests rave about the peaceful setting, friendly hosts, and spotlessly clean rooms. Many highlight the ease of parking and the proximity to concert venues like NEC and Ricoh Arena. The gardens and historic charm make it feel like a home away from home.

Areas for Improvement

Because it’s a traditional B&B, you won’t find 24/7 room service or a hotel bar on-site. It’s best for those who prefer a quieter experience rather than a party vibe. Also, you’ll likely need a car or taxi for late-night returns from shows.

The Bottom Line

The Old Rectory is a cozy, countryside base that’s ideal for concert-goers who want quiet comfort and easy access to Birmingham’s biggest venues.

Delightful 14th century rectory with...

Liked: Jane was lovely, a really attentive host. The rooms were beautifully characterful - the Old Rectory dates from the 14th century! Everything was clean and welcoming.
Disliked: Not much hot water for a bath. If you don’t mind this, it’s perfect. And probably completely fixable if you let Jane know in advance.

Liked: The bed was very comfortable. The host was very friendly and welcoming. The continental breakfast was good.
Disliked: The shower was virtually unusable as it is in a slanted roof no higher than about 5ft drooping to floor level. You’d need to sit in the bath to shower. It isn’t somewhere for a longer stay but for 1 night it was fine.

Wedding stopover

Liked: Quirky and homely, lovely building and loads of space in the room. Owner was lovely and very chatty about the area.
Disliked: Tea/coffee making in the room would of been better and the shower head is too low, but that can’t really be improved.

Liked: The property is very old but has character. Plenty of space in rooms and bed comfy
Disliked: The lighting whilst getting ready for a wedding was not ideal but the property is old. Breakfast was ok but the yoghurt upset my stomach - not sure how long it had been left out as there was no one in the property and we were left to fend for ourselves
