The Spotlight on The Old Inn

Highland Hideaway with a Musical Soul

Modern hotels aren't for everyone—The Old Inn offers something a little more special. Nestled near a quaint fishing harbor in Flowerdale Glen and just 1.5 hours from Inverness, this cozy countryside retreat is steeped in rustic charm. With traditional decor, scenic surroundings, and a welcoming atmosphere, it’s a peaceful base for travelers heading to gigs in and around the Highlands.

Each room comes with a private bathroom, TV, and tea/coffee facilities, and there’s free parking and Wi-Fi to keep things convenient.

Why Concert-goers love it

The Old Inn is ideal for fans attending shows in Inverness who want to swap the city buzz for a quiet post-concert wind-down. While it’s a drive from the venue action, the scenic journey offers a perfect transition from high-energy performances to restful Highland calm. With late check-in from 16:00, there's time to settle in before heading out, and the peaceful setting ensures a good night's sleep after the encore.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends wanting a cozy base with a pint by the fireplace
  • Solo travelers looking to pair a concert with Highland exploration
  • Couples turning a show into a romantic weekend
  • Fans craving a quiet, scenic recovery spot post-concert
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who want value with character

Food and Drink Options

The Old Inn’s restaurant is a highlight, serving up fresh-caught seafood and locally-sourced game—perfect for a hearty meal after a show. The cozy public bar and lounge offers real ales and a relaxed vibe. While there’s no mention of 24/7 room service, the traditional hospitality and filling fare more than make up for it. Breakfast is available, ideal for those slow mornings after a big night.

Nightlife Options

While not a party hub itself, The Old Inn has a charming bar with local brews, perfect for a quiet drink. For livelier nightlife, head into Inverness before returning to the tranquility of Flowerdale Glen. It’s a great balance for those who love music but don’t want the noise all night.

What People Say

Guests rave about the warm, friendly staff, the beautiful setting, and the delicious local food. Many appreciate the peaceful atmosphere and rustic character, making it a comforting place to return to after a busy night out.

Areas for Improvement

Due to its rural location, it’s not ideal for those relying on public transport or wanting to stumble home from a gig. Some rooms are on the simpler side, but the charm and setting make up for it.

The Bottom Line

If you're heading to a Highland concert and want a scenic, authentic and relaxing place to crash, The Old Inn hits all the right notes.

Good stay

Liked: Rooms clean and big. Staff was friendly and the breakfast and bar food were excellent.
Disliked: I know you are preaching to a captive audience and it's on the NC500 but the price of the room is a tad expensive

Good overall but upgrade those...

Liked: The Old Inn has a real charm about it. They have modernised the parts of the building that they ought to but left plenty of the old charm in there too. The hotel offers a laundry facility which was of huge help to us after a bout of travel sickness on the way to getting there. The food was very nice and there was a good selection of drinks available.
Disliked: The mattresses were very uncomfortable. Not sure if that was due to age or due to being very cheap. However my wife and I both woke up with sore backs. While the staff overall were nice, the lady on check out was cold and barely uttered a word when I handed the key back.

Very disappointing.

Liked: The setting
Disliked: Initially we were given two ground floor rooms which were below ground level, very poorly decorated, cold and with stone floors. We asked to be moved and were moved to better rooms . The breakfast was awful and a complete shambles. Felt sorry for the young waiter who was trying his best. Food was cold, the only fruit on offer was an apple, coffee was cheap and luke warm. There were no bread rolls The meagre offering of hot food was overcooked and barely warm. A man, we assumed was probably the chef, kept popping in and out dressed in a dirty tee-shirt and looking scruffy.Would not recommend staying here. It was massively overpriced at £174 a night.

Pleasant - 3.0 out of 5

Pleasant

Liked: The location and the evening staff in bar and restaurant. Also, the quirky nature of the Inn.
Disliked: The noise from other rooms. Very small bathroom and blocked shower in one of our rooms.Food overpriced. Breakfast needs a total rethink in terms of service and delivery. It just does not work and although ordered the previous day one of our party went without breakfast! Chaotic and somewhat like an episode of Faulty Towers.
