Pleasant but could have been so much better .

Liked: The room (room 9) was big and spacious , it was nicely decorated and modern
Disliked: I was on my bed half naked and their was a man walking around right outside my window on the roof , I froze , it was a bit of a shock .Their was no toilet roll , none at all it had not been replenished .The shower had no soap or shower gel , only hand wash in the place of shower gel .The food was expensive , I had scampi and it was not fresh , I paid 20 for something I could have got from farm foods for 3-4 The bed was not comfortable , no mattress topper , for the price I paid Id expect a mattress topper .The door was difficult to lock , I left my room unlocked when I left as I couldnt work out how to lock it , I heard another couple ask about this .

Wouldnt recommend

Liked: Nice location. Staff that we did meet were friendly enough.
Disliked: The property is very dated with old thread bare carpets in main corridors and rooms in serious need of updating. Staff didnt give us any direction about room, locks, timings for breakfast, bar etc. The bar closed because they were quiet - by 9pm. Booked a disability room - it was just aswell we didnt rely on wheelchair in the room because you couldnt get wheelchair between the twin beds. No full Scottish breakfast available. Not at all good value

Overpriced accommodation and food

Liked: The location is great - near a river walk. It's also quite near to stunning Gaineamh Mhor beach. The staff were friendly. We enjoyed a tasty (overpriced) dinner on the first night.
Disliked: The hotel is overpriced for what you get. It is an old inn so everywhere is dark but it's also drab and dated and staff are not often available. Check-in is quite late at 4pm. We were turned away when we arrived an hour early as the relevant member of staff doesn't start work until 4pm. Similarly, no-one was in reception during check-out despite me ringing the bell six times! So we couldn't get a payment receipt which was disconcerting. Our room was dated but a reasonable size. The single beds were uncomfortable and the bedding old fashioned. The towels were old, small and stained (bleach?). We ate dinner on the first night which was very tasty. However, we felt it was overpriced e.g. 18.95 for battered fish and chips, 29.99 for steak and chips. We enjoyed a meal at another local hotel during our stay that was delicious, beautifully presented and cheaper! Breakfast is a very limited continental. If you want a hot breakfast you have to pre-order the day before stating the time you want it. There is no full cooked breakfast. Options are single items such as boiled eggs, a sausage roll, a souffle. We pre-ordered 2 souffles but when we arrived in the breakfast room at the time stated, there was only one small souffle alongside a few slices of bacon in a display cabinet. No staff members were around to ask about the missing souffle. If it's difficult to have staff available, then perhaps a sign stating that what's in the display cabinet has been pre-ordered would help.
