Location, Comfort, Worth it

Liked: Every experience at the Observatory was fantastic. The reception by staff was perfect. The historical building is a treasure to explore yet modern and super comfortable to stay in. We were able to walk through the botanical gardens just across the road and there were several cafes at the location to choose from. The tram stop is just outside the arts centre and was easy to jump on and travel around Christchurch with a tour guide. We would stay at the observatory again if and when in Christchurch.

Liked: The location is superb. Art gallery, cinema, major attractions, good restaurants are all close at hand. The breakfast was very good (although the tables are a bit unstable.) The large communal room is beautiful.
Disliked: The bathroom was cold. There was no heater, no underfloor heating and no heated towel rail. The shower was complicated to use. There were very few TV channels available (not even the Maori channel). The greeting we received on arrival was friendly but somewhat cool, and we would like to have been shown how to make the lights work in our room. As an elderly couple, we would have appreciated it if one of the two staff on duty could have offered to help us outside with our luggage.
