The Oakland Hotel

Disappointing

Liked: There was nothing to really like for us, nothing bad just everything very average.
Disliked: We arrived about 9pm, it was very noisy with extremely loud music which I thought was only on Fri & Sat. Had to search for somebody to check us in. It was a v hot evening so had to open windows wide in room so noisy too.Breakfast very average. Shower in bath ok but bath very deep to step in/out.

Disliked: We were delayed by an unusual volume of people at the borders so we informed through Booking's messaging system that we would arrive after the normal hours.The hotel confirmed our request had been accepted through that same messaging system. Calling was not feasible due to poor network in that area and since we had confirmation from the hotel, we didn't worry.Then when we arrived, we found the hotel had closed and taken no disposition. So we had to book another one late at night and drive an extra 40 miles, or sleep in the car with young children.We talked to the hotel who then claimed we should have called them to make arrangements even though they had confirmed in written because they advise to call for special arrangements. We are supposed to guess that, their written confirmation means nothing but their oral confirmation is.Disappointing.

Liked: Staff friendly. Room was clean & tidy & the bed comfy.
Disliked: Room could probably do with a refresh but for the price we paid it was fine for one night
