Superb

Liked: Very nice rooms, beautiful building and setting. Good breakfast.
Disliked: Most of the hotel is not dog friendly, which is misleading on booking.com when searching for a dog friendly hotel. Sweet Chestnut cottage could be cleaner.

Liked: All good with regard to breakfast
Disliked: Very disappointed that it was not made clear that dogs were not welcome in main hotel. It’s very unusual for a country hotel to have this restriction

Liked: Decor, very comfy sofa and bed. Beautiful gardens. Very friendly and helpful staff. Loved hiring the boat! Fantastic food.
Disliked: Manage expectations! Would have been good to know the spa wasn’t ready - although we had never been promised it, the social media page still said it was going to open the week before. Also had had an email hack and no follow up response to reassure. Coffee pots in rooms - too messy

Overall disappointing, which if the...

Liked: A very lovely building in extensive well kept grounds. Dinner was fine, and the staff very helpful you could not fault them.
Disliked: We had a first floor room in the main building called Sorrell, it was supposed to be a deluxe room, but unfortunately it was far from deluxe. It was a decent size and well furnished, with two very closely placed twin beds. There was one window in the bedroom, and the bottom panes of glass had been painted over with white paint (very odd ).When we opened the window we could understand why. Our view was a very large flat roof, over the G F kitchen, which was covered by very large metal extract ducts, and even larger extract fans. When in operation it was very noisey, they started about 7am and were on and off until 9-30pm. When I asked if Sorrell was a deluxe room i was assured it was, however we were offered another room which we declined, having travelled from Portugal and unpacked. The ensuite bathroom was very small, with the shower cubical being the main issue. It was 600mm X 600mm or 24inches X 24inches, showering was difficult, and having done all of my body down to my knees, i had to stand outside the shower to wash my feet. I do have photographs of the roof extract ducts, and the ensuite shower room.Royston George Stanton
