The New Admiralty Hotel Ltd

Very good

Liked: The location was stunning and the room we booked overlooked the fields and sea. The shower was excellent. The breakfast was excellent for 4 out of the 6 days, however on one day the chef didn't turn up and on our final day the food wasn't the best, it was very dry. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Disliked: The coffee at breakfast was not great. The hotel locked it's main doors at 11 pm every night and there was no facility to swipe your room key to get in. We arrived after hours one night and we couldn't get in for over 30 minutes as the night porter couldn't hear us knocking and our international phone couldn't get through to the phone number provided - the next day my husband informed the reception staff and they then provided us with a front door key. Maybe a doorbell on the front door (direct to the night porter) or an actual key needs to be provided upon check in?

Liked: Location was fantastic and it was really lovely that I was upgraded to a sea view of Portland Bill with no extra charge! What lovely surprise. THe staff were all really friendly, especially the Chef. Always happy to help and nothing was too much trouble. Well done team Admiralty!
Disliked: The Bed was too soft and the pillows too fluffy. The internet was flaky (but I understand that being practically on Portland Bill its going to be like that! ). The service in the restaurant was very slow at times, and thought it was a bit silly to have to book the carvery when there were only a handful of guests! Also, the fact that I ahd to pay for my evening meal after said meal, not on the tab at the end of my stay as at most hotels! This seemed very odd.

Pleasant

Liked: More work is being done on the hotel. It is part of an old large naval building. The food in the evening was good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was a buffet but eggs were cooked to order. Nice views out to sea.
Disliked: Our bathroom needed maintenance

Liked: The rooms are new
Disliked: The restaurant is awful and fills the first floor with smells of fat frying. The hotel is in mid renovation and I stayed in a section that was still a partial building site. Portland is generally behind in its accomodation and needs to up its standards

Great place to stay.

Liked: Great location for visiting my friend who I hadn't seen for almost 30 years. We somehow lost touch when she moved from my home town in Northamptonshire to Portland. My Daughter drove us there as I don't drive. The staff couldn't do enough for us. The food was amazing. Only thing was the central heating wasn't on in our room. There was a small convector heater but that was it. I would definitely stay there again.
Disliked: Just having no central heating.
